One question here -

Torque for 3rd gear is same for Swift DDIS and Punto 1.3?

No, it isn't. Maruthi has successfully tuned the car with the same engine. Torque will change with RPM and gear ratio's. Maurthi swift has better gear ratio and hence, in gear acceleration is quite quicker than Fiat. However, please note that Fiat Punto is heavier than swift.

The same engine is assembled by all three FIAT, Tata and Maruti in their individual plants and fine tuned according to their cars. Hence you will fing cars from these makers even with the same power behave slightly diff.

Obviously it's turbo engine if maintained properly. It's a rare case when the exhaust turbo gets failed. CRDI engine without turbo unit is seriously underpowered.

But I heard that common rail engines is high in maintanence then turbo. I'm sorry, I'm referring to the two engines of TATA Indigo eCS, the TDi and the CR4.

One mechanic told me that the CR4 is more refined, gives better pickup, less vibration but higher maintanence cost, TDi one vibrates more, less pickup but cheap in maintanence.

Kindly let me know which one will be a better personal car for  average running of 1200 to 1500 km per month.

Abu,

CR4 engine of TATA should not be very expensive to maintain. With your kind of running, go with CR4 even if you have to spend a lil more on maintenance, you will recover the cost in good FE plus you will enjoy better pick up, better refinement.

I would also, like you to check out Ritz VDI which will come at the same cost of the Indigo eCS CR4. It will be lower on maintenance, you will have to compromise on the boot space though.

Good Luck

@car_crazy

Turbo is a component added to Diesel engine to enhane the power and torque output. It is present in the CRDi units of all manufacturers like TATA, Suzuki etc.

Regular service costs are similar for CRDi units to that of other units. It is costlier in case of a breakdown. For e.g. Fuel Injectors on CRDi units are approx. 10 times costlier than older units. This is because of extremely high pressures that these units operate on.

Also they are less tolerant of bad fuel.

However modern Common rail tech is becoming very reliable and you should opt for it only.

@ sarthakgupta

hanks for the input. I have finalized the model, it is Indigo eCS CR4 LX.

@ manishbajaj

I have checked the Ritz VDi one, nice car, but I will need to fit music system and few other small things to bring to the Indigo CR4 LX standard which will cost me another 20-25K, the TATA here is offering me 20K discount, so the difference gets raised to about 45K, so I've choosen TATA Indigo.

Also the TATA ASS here is good, I know several people and ASS station. I will get 4 ASS station onway to my home town and working place, and only 1 Maruti ASS in case of a roadside breakdown, so taking all these factor in mind I have opted for TATA.

Few things depends on luck, like my China made CD player which I bought in train @800 Rs, at Siliguri in 2000 still working fine...........

Wish me luck for my new car...............

eCS would be a good choice for your needs.
