I dont understand the point of not allowing a post to be quoted.

Carwale doesnt allow the option of threaded vs linear mode as far as the forum is concerned either.

If entire long posts are quoted, i understand, but if one can't quote posts , how is one expected to set the context of a reply in a long thread?

greenhorn, if the entire post is to be quoted, you can rather provide a link to the actual post, which is embedded in the post's number on top right of th quote. Generally on fora, it is customary to embed this link in the poster's name if there is a quote.

If there is a long post you would like to rebut point by point, you can use a simple trick. The visual effects of a quote are provided in the programming using the following pattern. I am embedding spaces between each character of the pattern to avoid triggering processing of the pattern.

Begin quote, specifying who quoted: [ ^ ^ quote=author ^ ^ ] (this appears on a new line)
then copy /paste relevant portion of the post you want quoted
end quote with this pattern [ ^ ^ / quote ^ ^ ]

You would probably have figured it out based on how the quoted text appears in the composition text box.

I agree threaded mode is missing from the features. I consider their utility only marginal, as the context is available in the thread itself, and additional references can be given through links where required. So it is not a blocking issue.

It is still a point on which to gherao Banwari in the National meet, though

PRECEDING post is NOT allowed to be quoted.

By quoting the post concerned (provided it's NOT the preceding post itself - not required for obvious reasons - howsoever long the thread may be).

Jain use the 'Quote' button on the bottom right of the individual posts(blue rectangle with white lettering) to quote normally. Its much simpler thna to use the tool bar button.
