Greetings, 1. Could you briefly explain all there is to alloy wheels, including the advantages and disadvantages? I haven't purchased the car yet; however, since the Xeta does not come with alloy wheels as part of the standard equipment, I plan to have it fitted. What do you advise? What tyre specs and brand would you recommend. 2. What would be your choice of tyres among: Apollo Amazer/JK Tyre/Good Year/Bridgestone. Thanks a bunch

Dear Jascha, The biggest and sometimes only advantage of having Alloy Wheels in car is looks and just looks. And if they are damaged, they prove themselves very costly. Alloy wheels are good to have if you are having tubeless tyres though. Tyre size can be 175x 60 R13. Among tyre brands, you can go for Bridgestone or Good Year.

So if I understand correctly, there would be absolutely no difference experienced during driving nor would it alter engine performance, correct? Do you recommend having alloy wheels fitted?

Jascha, Yes, there will be nearly no difference in driving experience and engine performance. We personally like alloy wheels as an accessory, they look good. If your objective is not looks, we don't recommend them to you.

Thanks for the clarification! How much typically would I be looking at cost-wise to have tubeless tyres( a set of 5) and alloy wheels fitted? I reside in Mumbai. Would carwale.com recommend/suggest a few places where I might have this done? Thanks again.

Jascha, Set of 5 tubeless tyres for Indica would cost near 8000-9000 and 5 alloy wheels will cost you around 15-20,000 rupees. You can go for Bridgestone tyres and Aura alloys. You can get them fitted from any showroom near you, there is no problem as such in it.

I wish to have tubeless tyres (Bridgestone Potenza GIII ) and Aura alloys fitted to my Xeta. I intend trading the vehicle's brand new tube tyres for tubeless. I reside in Mumbai(Andheri), but am willing to travel, so long as the dealer is reliable. What I'd like to know is: 1) If I should have the tyres fitted from an authorized Bridgestone dealer first, and then proceed to an alloys showroom to have them fitted OR is it recommended to have both done at the same place (one that stocks tyres + rims) 2) Also, how much do you think I would get for trading the car's factory-fit tyres OR to put it in another way, what might be the cost difference I can expect to pay, with regard to trading my tyres for the Potenza GIII. Thanks and look forward to your reply.

Dear Jascha, What we suggest is, you find a shop that can avail you both tyres and wheels. Also it should provide you exchange facility too. Reason behind this suggestion is, its more likely that you get a better deal on your stock tyres/rims. Your car dealer too can do this but we are afraid it may trade your stock tyre/rims for peanuts. Even if you trade your existing tyres/rims for new ones, you will have to pay 17-18k.

Dear CarWale.com, Now that we are clear on Alloy wheels, can you tell me if it would be better to use Radial tyres as against tubeless tyres (without alloy wheels)? Which one would be better for a compact car (like, WagonR)? 1. Radial Tyres (or) 2. Tubeless Tyres

Hi,

In layman language, tubeless tyres consist of a special rubber at its innermost layer which gives air-tight and sealing properties to the tyre, so in case of a puncture, the liner envelopes it and prevents the air from leaking instantly. This makes tubeless tyres safer.
