In other words,  you need a basic car as a substitute for a scooter. Alto is the de-facto choice. I would have said M800, but it is showing age, and does not have a power steering option.

So my recommendation overall is Alto LXi BS III

I would have gone higher as your budget does not exclude higher models, including basic A-star or Chevvy Spark, but with each higher model, cost of ownership goes higher, as spares, maintenance etc will also go higher. Also the lower variants of the higher models do not have features of the higher variants, defeating the purpose of an upgrade.

No need to go fancy, stick to Alto LXi.

chevy spark is the best VFM in this segment. Will fit in your budget as well !!!

Car is no longer a luxury; parking space and now petrol is !

ASS of GM(india) is getting better !!! There has been a sharp increase in the number of service centers. You might want to search on this topic here, i guess there are quite a few discussions going on this topic.

Hi Arghya,

Since you are going to keep the car for 5 years, why not swift diesel?

Just stretch your budget little bit and grab this. You get good mileage and better comfort.

ASS and resale value would be great in swift!!!

You can also have a look at palio multijet.
