Great that Cochin corporation is providing off-roading experience for all of us. The condition of certain roads in the name of some freedom fighters and renowned humanitarians are so pathetic that i've often heard people cursing the Mahatmas.

Maintenance of roads is once in a blue moon, the traffic signals are at wrong places, the roads aren't wide enough, the police men don't have any clue about Issue Management. The city has one of the most slowest traffic.

Its high time we kochiites react! Its high time the Corporation show some respect to the tax payers..

Wondering how digital PR can be used as a strong tool for raising citizens demand in fron of the govt. Hope this thread goes live supporting this cause..

Thanks

Even chennai is having bad roads because of the heavy rain. However I could see some people working to correct them.

Ok i can see the rain is the main reason, but over here the condition of many roads are very pathetic always.

Many roads aren't wide enough to withstand the traffic.

Actually the town planning is pretty poor, i don't think they did any kind of forecasting while planning the city.

Cochin City is bottle necked by the two overbridges(south&north).City needs to grow horizontally rather than congested vertical heights claiming heavy traffic on the already congested city.Pullepady overbridge ,Edapally overbridge etc cannot do much in case of Kochi.Only solution imho is get the city grow to suburbs(as it is now in case of malls opening in NH47 vyttila -edappilly etc) to kakkanad, kalamassery, thrippunithura making a Outer Ring Road.GCDA Website already shares these plans;but practicability is the question.

Ring Road

In the light of the Vallarpadom International Container Transshipment Terminal it is felt that we should plan for providing an uninterrupted traffic flow corridor starting from Marine Drive through the coastal areas and linking the major existing human settlements like Kothad, Chennur,Varapuzha, Alangad, Aluva, Chengamanad, Keezhmad, Edathala, Puthencruz, Chottanikara, Mulamthuruthy and Udayamperur and crossing NH 17, the New NH AI Container Highway, the NH 47, Sea Port Airport Airport Road and finally meeting the NH 47 at Kumbalam.

Any vehicle Coming to the CBD and the Vallarpadam from the outskirts of the city can reach there without disturbing the city centre traffic movement through this corridor.

Yeah some places builings came 1st before a proper road came there that is such places have very narrow road which heats up ur head very fast.Yell.

Peopls in this area don't move also as they know nothing is going to happen to them.

Exactly Prakash, Cochin city is congested mostly because of the narrow bridges (south and north). Just see the additional bridge project near Kaloor (behind Lisie Hospital). I have been watching the bridge half done since at least past 4 years.

Cochin is the first city in Kerala to get the Metro, so guess there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Another aspect in Kerala is the poor load tolerances to which the roads are built. Truckers are one of the main contributors to 'road destruction' closely following rains!

As far as conditions of roads are concerned... I think it's rains that affect the tar-roads the most (Kerala: more rains more damage). Roads made of cement/concrete (slabs) sustain rains & load/truckers much better.
