2000km per month with petrol car !!

SX4 will never give mileage of 14 in crowded traffic like metros and other big cities, it will give max 11km per litre.

If we consider the petrol price as Rs 44 per litre and mileage of say 14.5 km the per km fuel cost is 44/14.5=3.03 rupees

Now one pays extra of amount Rs 90,000/- to buy a diesel version of same variant (eg Petrol car 7 L, diesel car 7.9L). The diesel price say Rs 34 per litre it will give mileage of 18.5 km , the per km fuel cost is 34/18.5= 1.84 rupees

Per km fuel cost difference for running the car is 3.03-1.84=1.19 rupees. So running of diesel car to recover the extra cost of rupees 90,000 is 90,000/1.19=75630 km

2000km per month, 36000 km in one year, time taken to conver 75630 km is 75630/2000=38 months= 3 years 2 months

So after three years and two months the benefit of buying diesel car will start if the petrol car is giving mileage of 14.5. Now if the petrol car mileage is 11 the benfit will start within two years.

6000 km per month !! just do similar calculation and find whats beneficial petrol or diesel

My run is around 2000 km a month and I am happy with petrol version of SX4 ZXI.The econom of diesel cars is a myth, the only people making money on diesel versions is the manufacturers who charge huge and unfair premium on diesel versions. My SX4 ZXI is giving me 14.2 to 14,6 kmpl in city with ac and traffic jams.SX 4 is a power packed large car which has never let me down in almost 2 yrs and 40000 km.For your run you do not need diesel.Petrol linea is underpowered.Fiesta is a smaller car in comparison and its back seat is very cramped,it is in fact even smaller than Getz back seat.

Factor in the interest charges of 12% PA on additional cost (75000) of diesel version, for 5 yrs,it will come to 45000 rs additionally. Also,Diesel needs servicing every 6000 km while petrol needs every 10000km ,also cost of servicing is higher by around 50 % for diesel version.Add all this and it will take 6 to 7 years for diesel version to break even which is a very long time for me as by that time you will need to replace the car.Remeber, difference between cost of diesel and petrol versions is the lowest (75000 rs ) for Maruti and Tata cars. This difference will be higher for others.

I am using Fiesta TDCi (service every 10,000 kms).

Maximum service cost paid: 3400/- (30,000 kms service).

40,000 kms service costs 2211/- & 50,000 kms service costs 2000/-

Service cost higher by 50%? Breakeven of Diesel v/s Petrol depends on Running only. One can easily calculate like Vs.

SX4's best city mileage is 11kmpl with a.c. (Majority is getting even 9-10kmpl).

Cheers!

Rajiv, I have given comparison for upto 75000 rs difference between petrol and diesel, in the case of Ford, the difference is highest ie more than a lac which will never be justified.

Dear Nipun,

With running of 2000 kms per month one can easily save Rs.4500/- to Rs.5000/- per month on fuel bill. Count least Petrol mileage 10kmpl with a.c. & Diesel mileage 15kmpl with a.c. in city driving. Difference will be bigger if you will consider highway mileage of Petrol & Diesel.

That makes it around Rs.55000.00 per year. And by picking diesel one can save around 1.5 lacs in 3 years if running is 2000 kms per month. In any case he will save over a lac in 3 years.

Most importantly, at the time of buying one can stretch a bit (its little bit easiar) and buy a diesel car but after buying petrol car with running over 2000 kms. there is no option but to visit petrol pump every now & then and difference between Petrol & Diesel is over Rs. 11.45/- per litre. Saving 4500/- per month on fuel bill is a better deal in my opinion instead of saving 1 lac at the time of buying and thenafter spending 9500/- per month on Petrol.

Its point of view only.

Cheers!

Deepak pls specify.

@Nipun An Individual will certainly be happy on purchase of new car , it be petrol or diesel. Cheers

Why not consider putting a CNG/LPG kit ? It costs about 30 -35k retrofitting I mean. The average is similar to the diesel vehicles and there is also no loss of performance with newer kits.
