Hi All,

I wish to buy a used sedan under 4 lakh...I have shortlisted Ford Mondeo, Mitsubishi Lancer and Honda City 1.5. This car would be my first car and would like to have one which has good space(because of my height) and power. I know Honda City is the best in terms of both space and engine performance, however Ford Mondeo is the one which never fails to attract me towards it because of its sheer presence and feel. I also don't want to rule out the power of Mitsubishi Lancer. I would really like to go for Ford Mondeo....but as it has been dis-continued by company...I am still apprehensive about taking the decision....should discontinuation of the car be a problem.

I would be driving this car less than 500km per month. Also would like to buy a lower priced car and then spend some more on re-vamping it as per my choice.

Would love to hear some wise comments from you folks which could help me make my decision.

Cheers!

Akshay...

Hmmm i am ok with anything but LANCER here.Innocent

Mondeo will still do well but then you need to find out whether you have good mechanics around your locality who can fix it in case ofa troubleshoot later on.

Spares again will be an issue later on.

For how long you wish to keep the vehicle?

I have a feeling Mondeo will turn a spares and service nightmare. Stick with City, anyways you don't dislike it much...

Seriously though, I would want you to consider a properly aged Ford Fiesta SXi 1.6. Wotsay?

I also would suggest Honday city and not Lancer. Lancer's ground clearance is too less I guess

THe Mondeo would be expensive to maintain, the Lancer never had the go to match the show in its day and now its old and outdated.

Your only option then is a Honda City.  If you stretch your budget by about 50-75k you can also get a very powerful and extremely driveable diesel sedan with reliability, parts and service backup - the Hyundai Elantra.

But then a person looking at the Honda City and the Lancer is not likely to be looking at an Elantra as it doesnt score highly on the looks front.

Keep those wheels turning!

Dr. Abyshines - I wish to keep th vehicles for atleast 3 yrs. Moreover I stay in Mumbai...so mechanics shouldn't be problem for Mondeo and but not sure about the spare parts..would consulting from Ford dealer help?

Krishna - Fiesta as you suggested is a decent car, but as per reviews maintainence and space is a big issue....I am sorry but I am very critical about space.

Steeriod - You guessed it right Elantra doesn't fit the bill in terms of looks!!

Gerard - Thank You for you inputs...I will keep that in mind..

I also wanted to mention the Mondeo is one of my favourites because of all the goodies it has stored in it.....But still don't know if is the one....could be getting carried away by the illusions.....I hope your suggestions could out more sense into me.

More comments are welcome!!

Dude..What time do u get up in the day? U replied at 6.47am.

Anyways. Both lancer and the Mondeo are outdated models. Slightly better is the City. But can't u go in for the Chevy Optra 1.6? There are a good no of used cars around.

With a budget of 4L, there are a lot many options available.

Seriously pls chk when u go in for a second hand one. My recent experience was a nightmare.

Akshay

I second Vinay. For the basic reason that It's your first car. You will have to bet your luck on secondhand car. If its in your favour its perfectly ok.... But if its against you.. thrust me you will find difficult to come out of it & loose your hard earned money.

Buy the secondhand ONLY if you know the owner well, other wise avoid it , However passionate you are about a perticuler car.

Unless you still want to betWink
