Hi ,

Today morning I started my car and drove without a/c. Whooah!! the engine stopped again. So the problem is not with a/c. To my luck the car switched off in front of MASS. One service guy reached and helped me.(car was running again). I explained the issue to the service engineer. He test drove it. Nothig happened. car was normal.. Then I asked him to do general oil check etc. ...He said that he saw a torn out wire near the solenoid which might have caused the off problem. The engine was kept on for three hrs. Then when I was abt to take the car it switched off again. The service engineer told me that petrol was not coming properly and then he said he will direct something below the dash board. So if I turn the key the petrol will flow to engine. Then I drove some 20kms. Not sure if the problem is over ( though MASS is sure abt it).. will need two more days to find if the problem is over.

Please confirm what has been "direct-ed" under the dash? If incase it is the fuel pump main wire he has put direectly to the ignition, it might cause premature failure of fuel pump/motor (whichever is there in carb engine).

Never ever get any main electrical "direct" through ignition. It is made by the manufacturer in a certain way for a reason.

I think it should be the fuel pump motor. I will confirm with him. But I am not sure how this will solve the problem. The car was running fine for the past few kms. How could petrol stop pouring into engine suddenly evn when the car is 30 - 40s. Also how could the car start in next two tries..

This problem like I said before can come without any solid reason. Its afterall meachanical and sees no logic in anything like we do.

Though Im not sure of the features of the carb zen engine, but AFAIK it should never be run direct.

Just for info mpfi zen fuel pump/motor costs 17k

Is it smoke? Can you smell something like its burning or a foul smell?

It can also be condensed air i.e when air that comes out the blower is hotter than air in the cabin, it sometimes happens for a short period of time.

This happens mostly during changing seasons!

Hi Aravindh

I too have Maruti Zen (carb) 1996 Model.

  1. I think If your car stops at low speed then posobility is your cars Slow Switch is not working properly.
  2. Fuel Pump is not working at its best.
  3. Low RPM could cause stop the car at low speed or sudden putting your feet from throttle.

I believe it will help.
