I was told during the first service of my Vista (Quadrajet) that no oil change is required before 10,000 KM. I checked on Maruti, they have an Oil Change for VDi during the First Service ie. after 1000 KM. Its strange how come both cars sharing the same engine have diffrent oil change schedule. Any idea about the reason for this and what impact does it have on the engine. I am a little paranoid because I have heard that if Oil is not changed in time there is a high possibility of an engine seizure.

I also have the same experience. while my friend who owns swift diesel told me that service station will change engine oil during first servicing, while i enquired of it at indica servicestation they told that they didnt change my engine oil of quadrajet which had completed 1130 km. now i don't know if it is good for the engine or not. please experts..shed some light. while we are supposed to surrender our cars to the servicestations but these doubts arise because it involves our hard earned money and we care about our cars.

The reason would be because of two scenarios:

1)the difference in the oil used by the two companies

2)there might be a pre delivery oil change in case of the tata(after the factory tests)

Also the MJD is rated at 10K service intervals and it would be only that Maruti is being over cautious!

Lastly costs could also play a role!

i have driven the old indica & indigo tdi....we got the oil changed after 1000kms...same should be the case with MJD...maruti has done the right thing... binoy ..i dont agree with you when you say "there might be a pre delivery oil change in case of the tata(after the factory tests)" ...its simply not possible...no company does that...

Avoid '.....'-MODS

Recently I done 2nd free service of my Vista QDJ after 5100Km. During service I insisted on engine oil change, the service advisor told me that there is NO NEED to change oil before scheduled running (10000Km). He also said that why you worry?, if company is stating 10000Km. Though his statement. still I changed the oil & filter, which cost me around 1300 rupees.

In my opinion, it is always better to change oil before schedule, to help longer engine life, especially in new cars. If we insist (and ready to pay), ASS will change oil earlier. Engine oil is the blood of engine the performance and service period mainly depends on quality of engine oil

Manish-the possibility was put forward and the same was not suggested.

As you mention these practices are not done by volume manufacturer, but there were cars run in by the company itself the engine oil change done and then handed on to the customer. This was done by Cosworth in the 90's and if am not mistaken Porsche and Ferrari too.

Hi Amrut, I guess I will follow the same steps on my next service at 5000, can you share any improvement in fuel efficiency or any other performance related changes after an early oil change. I am getting an avg of 18-19 kmpl in a mix of city and highway driving...

If the company suggests a particular task at a particular KM reading, it should be after extensive testing. I find no reason to doubt the competency of the engineers or to be proactive in overriding their recommendations.

@Anil Kumar, while what you say is correct there is absolutely no harm in changing oil a bit earlier or a bit more frequently (as long as it is within reasonable time-frames/budgets). Yes, changing oil less frequently or later is bad for the engine and not at all recommended.

I own Vista Qjd, I recently took the vehicle for second servicing  ie at 5000km. Shocked to see that the engine oil was very low when compared with the level to be maintianed. What would be the reason for drop in engine oil. Is there would be a problem in engine? I am concerned on this. And also service centre charged me for wheel alignment , Is wheel alignment charged in second service.
