Is it same RTO or City?

Thanks Anshu.

This means it applies for any vehicle 2W and 4 W. Generally most individual will own a 2 wheeler first and when he want to upgrade he will automatically comes in 15% bracket. I hope they will allow individual to get in to lower slab if gap between ragistration of vehicle is more than 5 years or so.

Pankaj, if its smaller city or town with one RTO, then its city. But in bigger cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi etc, the city is divided into diff RTO zones. For example, in Hyd we have 5 diff RTO zone and all have diff numbers like AP 09, AP 10, AP 11, AP 28, AP 29. So in such cases its RTOs rather than city. Hope it makes it more clear.

Yes Sujit. It applies to both 2W and 4W. And with time the percentage decreases. I dont have the list but the same could be find out in AP RTO site. But I am sure its the current or old one and not the one thats going to be in apply from next year. As an example, I paid 6% for second car which was 8 years old. If it would have been new, I would have paid 12%. So it does reduces with time.

There is talk in every state that all RTO office will be interconnected and will share same data base. Also eventually RTO across state going to do the same -- God know when this will actually materalise.

Any ways thanks Anshu for this clarification.

Thanks Anshu & Sujit for the info.  I was not aware of higher tax for 2nd/subsequent vehicle.  It's not so here in Gujarat & many other states.

This is to discourage individual owning two vehicles.

Nothing to discourage.  It's only a means of abstracting more tax/money from rich/richer.

This is absurd.  The 2W & 4W are two different requirements altogether.  The criterion should rather be - higher tax for 2nd 2W & 2nd 4W.

Quite strange...I thought its all same every where, just that rates are different. Atleast I know this about AP, MH, MP, CG and KA states. These things are there too.

Yes..even I told the same to RTO fellow when I first came to know about this. He bluntly said "Go and ask the govt" Unfortunately this is how it is

For additional vehicle the Life Tax is 14% of the new vehicle. The additional vehicle means,  if one is having already vehicle with the seating capacity of 10 in all, and additional vehicle is also in the seating capacity of 10 in all then the 14% life tax is applicable.

It means that if you have a bike, then you can have car without attracting 14% life tax.

Last week Hyundai sales person called me up and told me that the life time road tax in AP will be hiked to 15% (from 9%). Is that true? I googled a lot but could not find any relevant info.

Also, during december time, car manufacturers give discounts to the tune of 30-40K. Is this discount on ex-showroom price or On road price ?
