Hi Guys. I have booked a Suzuki Ritz LXi.I will get my car in a weeks time.  I want to up size my tyre from 165/80/14 R to 185/70/14 R. I will get a tubeless JK tyre in the Lxi version.

My requirement is comfortable drive and best rate

I need your feedback for the following doubts:

- Would you advice me if I go for a JK tyre up size

- What would be the best exchange rate I could get

- Could I maintain the company warrenty

- Do you suggest believing Maruti for the exchange.

- Could I use my factory fitted steel rim with the up sized tyres

- And will there be a considerable change in the comfort level.

Thank you so much

Hi Vishal,
as far as I know, you can't fit 185/70 tyres on rims meant for 165/80 tyres. Why don't you find out from Maruti if you can exchange your steel rims for Ritz ZXI's alloy wheels and if doing that would affect the warrantee of your car or not?

Anand dealers can be picky on tyre and alloy prices compared to a dedicated shop.

Also its quite possible to fit 185 section tyres on rims running 165 section tyres as OE-no problems there.

Sir,

I have posted this question elsewhere on the forum as well. I Need your serious advise with regard to tyre upsize for my brand new Ritz Lxi purchased on 2nd November 2009. I recently purchased and installed Neo alloy wheels for the car in size 14x6. Can you please help me and advise if this is the right choice for the alloy. The original size of factory fitted rim was 14x5. Now the new alloy wheel is 14x6 which I guess means that the alloy is 1 inch more broader than the factory fitted rim. Can you plz advise if this increase of 1 inch in width could be harmful and possibly unsafe to the suspension. On the Neo wheels site the Neo Titan alloy has been shown as compatible with the Ritz in size 14x6.

Request you to please help me decide if this was an ideal upgrade for my car. Also that if the present standard JK tyres 165 80 R14 will be compatible with the new 14x6 alloy or I would need to change the tyres to a bigger size 185 70 R14(comes in Ritz Zxi) for better compatibility ?

Thanx in advance, Sir please do reply as I am very confused and a little worried if this was right set of alloys for my car.

Hey congrats on your new Ritz Dev! I received my Ritz (ZXI) on 13th November!

Since you have already purchased and installed the Neo alloy wheels, don't you think its too late to be asking if what you've done is right or not? As the advise goes, it is not recommended to go beyond the factory specifications without prior consultation.

Though Binoy Thomas (above) confirms that its quite possible to fit 185 section tyres on rims running 165 section tyres, I am not sure it works the other way around. What I mean is that the 165/80 tyres that you have right now, won't fit on the 14"x6" rims that you have purchased.

Why are you asking about the 165/80 tyres fitting on your new rims? With your rims installed you must be running on new rubber, aren't you?

I am curious how much did the Neo alloys wheels cost you? Did you buy a set of four or a (recommended) five?

Hi Anand / Sir Mr Binoy Thomas ,

Thanx and congrats to you as well for your Ritz. Till now I have not changed the tyres. I still have 165 80 R14 installed with the new alloy. The thing is that I am not much worried about the fact that I would have to change the tyres to bigger size i.e 185 70 R14. I know that the warranty of the car could be voided if you mess around too much with the alloy size but the problem is that I was not particularly aware that the rim width plays a very important part just like the rim diameter. This is particularly the reason I did not go for an upsize say for example a 15 inch Alloy. Before installing the alloy I never knew that the default width size of the factory fitted rim on Ritz Lxi is actually 5j and for Zxi it is 5 1/2J. Its only after I installed the Neo 14X6 that I came to know of the importance of Rim width. As you said that I have anyways now bought the alloys so I am not going to brood over about it too much. I just want to make sure that nothing goes wrong with the car while me or any other member of my family is driving it. This is primarily the reason I have put across this question to Sir Mr Binoy Thomas. I just hope that a 6J wheel is compatible with Ritz Lxi and will not do any kind of damage to the suspension. Sir Mr Binoy Thomas : Require your go ahead for the same PLEASE.

Now talking about the alloy wheel price part Anand I want to tell you that I got this set of 5 Neo Titan Alloy wheels for a very good price. I looked for alloys in every nook and corner of Delhi. Karol Bagh,Lajpat Nagar,Opp Hyatt Market and what not. 90% of the alloy dealers were only selling the imported ones. Due to my some apprehensions towards imported brands(which are actually Taiwanese or Chinese) I went for the Indian made Neo. I was getting most of the imported ones for around 9500 Rs for a set of 4 whereas the Neo was costing a minimum of 12K for a set of 4. I went to this dealer in Karol Bagh who had all the imported ones with him but had two designs of Neo. One of them was of 108 pcd not compatible with Ritz. I liked the other design(Neo Titan) very much and to my surprise he offered me the set of 5 for 10500(after exchange for my stock rims). Everywhere else in Delhi I inquired about Neo wheels no dealer was giving any design for less than 11500 for a set of 4. I even looked at buying Apollo Accelere alloys but again they were slightly more costlier than Neo. I liken this design so went ahead and bought it. Have inquired about your alloys that come along with the Ritz Zxi they cost a whopping 24000 Rs.

Anyways all the best for your buy. Are you also looking to change your alloys ? Do write about how your car is doing in City driving and what kind of average you are getting ? I also have a Maruti SX4 and music system on the car is pretty good. Is it the same with your Ritz Zxi.

Again Sir Mr Binoy Thomas need your advise about the rim. Please do reply. Thanx, Dev

Hi Dev,
Thanks for that wealth of information! I think you made the right decision and you sure got a deal, bro. Wow! I didn't know that ZXI's alloy wheels costed Rs. 24,000!!! No, I am not looking to upgrade, as I am quite happy with what I've got.

I will post my experiences and observations regarding my car.

Yes, I too am satisfied with the stereo that came with my car. Its nice to have music to listen to for a change, when I am driving (I had a WagonR LXI before this car and that didn't come with a stereo).

Hope you get the information you are looking for and do keep the rest of us posted on any new developments and observations. Drive safe.
