Already a secretary in the US Govt has adviced people to simply not touch the car and park it instead of taking it to the service station to get it corrected

Doesn't affect Indian cars, because parts are sourced from japan for Indian cars, but 8 million American and European cars are recalled

Toyota now plans to recall 7300 Camrys owing to the brake defect in the models. The brake fluid in Camrys can leak if the problem is not fixed making it more difficult for the driver to stop the car. Toyota has already recalled 437,000 Prius and Lexus models amongst the 9 million cars that have been affected worldwide.

Toyota filed a document with US Authority National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stating that it has discovered that the steering hose is too long which may rub against a tube on the left rear brake which may lead to wearing of the tube and spilling of braking fluid.

Toyota also stated that it is inspecting the steering complaints in Corolla too but no major incident has occurred on roads. The government stated that it is standard procedure and no official investigation has opened so far. The models affected at 2009 and 2010 models of Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla. "We have decided to recall as we regard safety for our customers as our foremost priority," the firm said.

Watch this issue turn into a trade war (it already is) soon.

The Americans will use this to kill Toyota.  Make no mistake about it.

You already have the US transportation secretary saying "We're not finished with Toyota yet" in a very sinister warning from Toyota's main rival - the Government of the United States (who owns a majority of GM and Chysler).

Japanese quality is still miles ahead of American and Euro.  One incident may shake the 'no questions asked' confidence in their products, but it doesnt bring them down to their rival's levels.

In the US market the company is facing a series of lawsuits which not only includes the brake fault problems but also lawsuits from people who have experienced plummeting resale value of their cars. 22 law firms in 16 states have filed lawsuits against the company where Toyota vehicle owners are chasing financial compensation as a result of the crisis.

After Toyota incident, automakers have learnt their lessons. Honda has already recalled its vehicles across the globe for faulty electric switches followed by Peugeot Citroen who also recalled their models across Europe. Now Volkswagen has recalled 193,620 vehicles in Brazil and Mexico. Volkswagen announced that there was lubrication problem with rear wheels in its models VW Novo Gol and VW Voyage.

Chief of Toyota Motors, Akio Toyoda, confirmed that he will face the US Congress next Wednesday to provide a “sincere explanation” on the safety issues of the cars being sold in the US market. Toyota has faced millions of recalls in a span of past one month. The issue has not only hurt sales and tarnished company’s brand image but has also given rise to hundreds of class action lawsuits on the company.
