Concerns:

Durability in long run(4-5 yrs)

Fuel efficiency

Resale value

Maintenance cost

Looks

Comfort

My shortlisted cars in my preference order:

1. Indigo CS TDI

Pros: Seperate boot, spacious, price(4.5Lakh), offers(free insurance+8000 corporate discount+ accessory worth 3000)

Cons: Engine noise and pickup in 1st and 2nd gear (before turbo starts), engine as compared to quadrajet

2. Swift Diesel VDI

Pros: tried and tested, quadrajet engine, maruti tag

Cons: 4-5 month waiting, price(5.05Lakh), no offers

3. Fiat Punto Diesel 1.3 Active

pros: quadrajet engine, big boot and spacious sitting, offers(similar to indigo)

cons: Recently launched so practically not tested by users so much as compared to above two cars, price(4.9lakh)

My vote is for Punto MJ Active.  It is excellent.

Punto is getting very good response from market,  so rest assure about service, if products is moving,  will get good service too.

I would suggest to rule out Indigo CS from your shortlisted cars.

Between Swift and Punto

Swift should be easier to drive in city than punto. However, puntos ride quality is better than that of swifts.
- swift is peppier than punto in 1st and 2nd gear
- Mileage of swift is better than that of punto (marginal)
- Maruti A.S.S is better than Fiat's

- Swift scores ahead in resale value

Take a TD of both vehicles and make a call - especially for the comfort aspect. nothing wrong in either of them..

But from your criteria, swift scores over the punto.

From your requriements:

Durablity : Can't comment on the Indigo. Fiat should hold up really well. I had a Palio for 5 1/2 years and not a single rattle from anywhere. Car felt as solid as it did when it was new. Swift, like most Maruti's is prone to rattles and build quality issues. My SX4 at 40,000kms is showing it's age.

Fuel efficiency: Don't worry about this. The difference is too marginal to make any difference. Swift should be most fuel efficient of these cars but then we need to remember that it's also much lighter then GP. My Grande Punto gives me about 17.5 to 18.5 kmpl (Last mileage was 19.9kmpl). Driving is 65% highway, 29psi on all tyres, ACC on all the time, max 2 passengers.

Resale value: Swift. Although, it's too early to comment on GP's resale I am sure it will not match Maruti's.

Maintainence : It should be th Swift although GP and Linea spares are extremely well priced. Here is a tip. Go to Fiat India's website, they have the full price list of GP and competition spares.

Looks: are subjective but for most it will surely be the Fiat Grande Punto.

Comfort: I am guessing Indigo. Tata owners can confirm.

I hope you know that the Swift's engine is BS-III compliant while the Punto's is BS-IV.

Instead of the Indigo CS, why don't you consider the Indica Vista?

Lastly, the Grande Punto pretty much outclasses every car in it's and even higher segments in ride quality, handling and steering feedback. If you like to drive, the Punto will probably give you the best time behind the wheel.

Jas,

only one answer punto is the best if you not thinking of resale value.

in swift there is problem in its calliper and gear box.

but in punto there is zero defect.

the smoothness of engine is tooo good in punto.

swift is also using fiat engine but with marutis gear box.

from technical specification and comfort i suggest go for punto.

if any qurrey please write

I own a PUNTO 1.3 Emotion. It has given me a mileage of 18.9  PUNE to mumbai & return. Max speed 150 KMPH. Still 1000 KM to go for 1st service.

Swift is slightly better in pickup, but i believe we are not in F1. Punto is very easy and soft in city trafic. It moves very smoth even at 40KMPH in 4th gear (with AC ON).

ASS is improving. and no need to go to service center again & again in PUNTO as service interval is 15K. Swift u knw very well.

It's just amazing that before purchasing a car u guys are thing for selling it. Boss I f u are keeping a car for just 1 or 2 year then resale value is important figure or else after 4- 5 yrs each and every car stands in same Q.

So, better to go for PUNTo MJD as its is really VFM.
