Hi Friends,

I would never consider another mahindra. My scorpio 3 years old and done about 90000 km started rattling all over at about 50k, the drive shaft gives a lot of problem, alignment and balancing is ever faulty, and the worst service by the dealers same as that of tata. I had the worst nightmare using tata vehicles from estate to sierra to safari and I thought mahindra would be better. Now this is the reason I consider to move on to Maruti or Toyota.

I see a reason why you have put SX4 in your wishlist and i feel its very much justified.

The purpose, still not too sure of comfort level compared to Innova considering a huge difference between the two.

But yes Originally SX4 was created as an offroader by SUZUKI,So no problem there.

It indeed is a sterdy vehicle.

Well Innova might not give you a feel of sedan, nor does interior feel so appealing specially the dashboard.

Having a longer wheel base is both advantage as well as problem for Rural drives.

Sx4 will suit you better if you dont  wanna use it for carrying huge loads unlike Innova.

I am unable to suggest you here,my apologise to you.

Probably because i dont see any need to compare both vehicles.

But beacuse you had have fair bit of troubles in the past regards to your Diesel enines, well SX4 wont drag you to Service station for mechanical faults for sure.

Go check both the vehicles in person at a dealer near ou and test drive both of them.

I am sure you will be able to judge for yourself.

SX4 is a good and safe car to drive on highways considering you are buying a zxi.

Besides Innova equiped with air bags will cost you some fortunne.

I think since you have been driving all diesels till now,try some petrol this time.

Dear Saki Chacko, acutally maruti cars are made to rattle very fast. Ownership experience of Innova is spotless and Economy of diesel is to be considered when monthly runnning is higher. I have seen no. of qualis which were driven for more than 3.00 Lakhs Kms without overhaul. So for your kind of requirements, Innove is the only alternative for trouble free ownership experience.

Hi Bhavin,I have driven my SX4 ZXI for close to 2 yrs and 40000km in a variety of good and bad roads and it has not started making any rattle or noise etc,it is like driving a new SX4 and Maruti engines are known to give very long service and you may have seen a badly kept SX4 making rattle ,also some Innovas are known to give more than 1 lac km but 3 lacs km will be a very rare specimen and you can not draw conclusion on this basis.SX4 indeed is a very strong car with rally based suspension and has off roading ability. SX4  drives like a car which Innova does not because Innova is not a car,Innova is a van and no matter how much you pay for it,it will not drive like a car. Also, keep in mind the fact that Innova is overwhelmingly used as a taxi and it will carry all such hassles like fruquent checks by police etc and drop in resale value as people will think that your used Innova was run as a taxi and will not give good price in resale.

I agree to this point and feel you need a Good vehicle apart from distinction from the rest, needless to mention VFM here as well.

SX4,Ritz and Likes making rattles is absolutely baseless and i just wonder if Diesel cars' rattles are barely audible owing to high noise by the engine itself-no matter how old the vehicle is.

You i hope not looking for 3 lakh km run as if now,Again considering you have owned only diesels till now,i would like you to opt for petrol this time.

Running cost will be more but considering the long frequent runs,i feel petrol suits you here when you are not worried about the running cost much.

There is something called peace of mind as well.

"Inside the cabin should feel like a car not like a hovercraft,"my dad says this always.

And it was because of him that we own a SX4 petrol car, despite the fact i was dead against a petrol owing to pleasure i use to get driving a diesel [although i till now have not come to know so as to why i liked diesel more than petrol back then]Innocent

Dear Friends,

Currently I own a scorpio slx. I drive about 3000kms every month, some long drives of about 500 km. I generally use my car in rural roads and ocassionally on highways. I am confused about selecting between Innova and Maruti SX4. I do have a driver, and I enjoy self driving too. Pl. advise.

Saji Chacko

Please look at it this way too

If you use the car mainly for driving in city with several members travelling along with you, then consider MUVs like Innova or Xylo

But if you need to go on long drives too with several memebrs, then whether Innova really is useful you need to consider from the following angle

Innova or Xylo are just slightly longer than sedans which use the boot space to put the thrid row.  If you travel long distance often - this is the time you will have more baggages too to carry along - then Innova or Xylo, you have very little space to keep the suitcases or bags - unless you dont mind going for an overhead carrier.

Actually Innova or Xylo are good City MUVs for several members or good MUV who can carry 5 alongwith their baggages comfortably for long distances - by folding the last row. Then you come back to the sedan configuration again- after buying an MUV.

Hi Aby, Nipun and Victor,

I agree with you Victor on the utility point, the third row seat on scorpio is a sheer waste and adds to the rattle. Aby and Nipun, since you are already using SX4, is it true that the caliper pins on the SX4 makes noise? I have a Wagon R also which is my second car for the last 4 years. It gives the caliper pin rattling even though the vehicle has just done about only 30000 km. Yes peace of mind is the most important thing as once you get into the vehicle after the day's grinding peace and tranquility is what you expect, and rattling really makes me uncomfortable. My personal experience with diesel and petrol is that if you take the average annual cost of fuel and maintenance both works out to be the same.

How can I recommend a SX4 when usage is 3000 kms per month?

No comparision with Innova (MUV) & SX4 (Sedan). If you really want a Sedan than Consider Chevrolet Cruze, If you are considering Innova then you can consider this car. Couple of hours back I was watching Test Drive @IBN7 channel. Feedback is very positive infact good for offroading too. If u love driving, Test Drive Cruze (You have to increase your budget).

I disagree on that vehicles GC [ground clearance capabilities]

Cruze indeed is a good car but since he wants for Rural drive as well,Cruze will be the last in option as far as offroading is concerned.

Saji Chako, there is no problem with the SX4 caliper pins and there has been not even a single rattle since purchase.

It has done 20,000 kms besides i havent heard of any rattle issues with the car.

Now you need to decide which vehicle suits your style SX4 Or INNOVA?

I think everyone has shared their views so far,And looks to me you are just weiry of the Maruti tag attached to sx4.

I think you need not worry on that. Its not Just a VFM vehicle but also a Quality product to suit needs of many, besides it has completed 2.5 successful years without any issues since its launch.

Final verdict lies in your hands and its left upto you now to decide which ones your pick?
