Hi Banwari Lal Sharma,

I came to know that you would be the best person to answer my queries. Though it would be very nice of anyone to help me.

Being a fresher to this field, I would like to start off with the basics.

As, I am planning to buy a car ASAP, would like a help from the experts available in this forum.

Firstly, I would like to share my shortlisted choice and would like your response on the same.

The shortlisted car is Maruti suzuki SX4. I finalised this car on the following parameters:

I wanted a sedan car with a good mileage, good ground clearance, comfortable and with an awesome engine efficiency (even though I don't know much about engine).

Would request you to help me with helping me decide the final car.

Along with the stated, I would like to know the various engine specifications a person should look at and their importance and role (especially for the specifications like cc value, engine type, piston displacement, output and torque values).

Hope to have a response soon.

Thanks for the valuable responses and help in advance.

Arun

To begin with...

Have a look at the top 4 versions of SX4 (new/BSIV included) - go through the Specifications (same in all versions).  You may also like to go through the Features & All Features before finalising the version (if you haven't).

SX4 is good on parameters mentioned by you - ground clearance, comfort/space & engine/performance.  It would return mileage of 9-11 in city & 14-16 on highway (depending upon the driving conditions & style).

Hi Pankaj,

Thanks a lot for the valuable response.

As adviced by u and as per the specifications of SX4, I beleive it would be best to go for the ZXi base model rather than going with the top model.. what say??

I actually am confused in between two choices of mine.. swift dezire of SX4.. (both petrol). As, there is a lot of difference in the prices of both the stated cars. but opting SX4 over Swift Dezire is really worth? especially SX4's new model being prity new to roads and for any reviews..

Could you please clear my other query as well? which was for what to look while purchasing a new car in technical terms, what is the importance and roles of the technical specifications?

Thanks

-Arun

Arun, Unless you are looking for Diesel version in Dzire, SX4 is way to go. Other options --verna, Honda City

Even specifications like length, breath, height, weight etc. are important.  Gears/transmission, steering, braking distance, wheel base/size, ground clearance, turning radius are other important aspects.  All these attribute to overall performance & handling/braking of the car.

Engine specifications like CC, Cylinders/Valves, Power (ps), Torque (nm) & the rpms those (ps & nm) are delivered at, are all very important aspects. Engine performance, pick-up, acceleration, roll-on acceleration & all depends on those.
