Our first drive review of the Manza.

Tata Indigo Manza (First Drive)

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

has the delivery started? the dealer in Pune says TD in 15 days and final delivery in 25 days...surprising...donno why tata is taking so much time to give a TD car to help people make up their mind...i am confused with Manza ( a sedan ) and i20 (hatch)..i am getting a sedan in hatch price ; hence confused..

@Neelam

It's a Tata value proposition, nothing to get confused about.

The manza sounds like a good practical car. The i20 is a class in its own. These cars are purchased for different reasons. I believe these cars are not competing. To the urbane consumer the i20 has a definite appeal - great design, great performance, great handling.

The Manza will not go unnoticed by the practical person - VFM, low maintenance cost, acceptable performance, good handling, and it seems...built to last. I trust the carwale review. I know shortcomings of the old Indigo, having driven it a lot, and carwale review has discussed them all stating the Manza overcomes most of those significantly. That's great. Tata motors are making offers that are hard to refuse.

Delivery time is not bad on the Manza but the TD time is strange - 15 days! But its imaginable- so many people want to try the new Tata car that offers so much for so less.

At this speed, two more generations and Hyundai will find it hard to match Tata motors propositions.

@Rajendra

Thanks for the input...the 15 day for TD was bcos the dealer in Pune says the car has not come for TD AT ALL..not that i am behind in the queue...thats strange for me.. how can they expect us to book a 6L car just by seeing it...delaer says u book now...take TD after 15 days..if u like, good..car is urs in another 10 days..else money back..

i am looking for 80% city ride and 50km daily commute in Pune..hence was looking at i20 and made up my mind to buy..till this sedan Manza came in less than i20 price and i got stuck...driving a big car always was dream but Tata tag does not attach much confidence..rumor says Manza will be new taxi for 5 star hotels

Avoid SMS language and the '.....'-MODS

Every car is used by taxi by someone or the other so that argument is at best stupid. Here are the cars that I know are used as taxis by five star hotels, not to speak of car rentals like Eurocar which use every known mid-to-upmarket car in India as effectively a taxi.

S-Class

E-Class

Nissan Teana

Camry

Which of these would you not buy because they are used as taxis?

BMW, Mercs, Audis are used as regualar taxis in Germany. That does not stop Germans (or us) from desiring them.

Well if Manza is going to join this illustrious lineup of 'taxis', I want a Manza. If a car is good for you, it's a good car - what other people use it for is their problem (or pleasure, in this case)

Regarding your TD comment: Tata motors disappoint me in this case, as was the case for Nano. They wanted people to book Nano without a test drive, which was insane. Even Mercedes-Benz, arguably the best car-maker, won't dare say that. That's almost a super-arrogant statement by Tata Motors (or the dealer). In an era where you can get test-drive of electric shavers, Tata Motors (or the dealer) are acting irrational. Pls don't fall for it - no booking without test drive. Period.

Something interesting: I booked a test drive of Manza on their site long long back and no response yet. I booked a test drive at Toyota site and I got a call within two hours and the test drive was fixed for the next day at my place. That's the humility Tatas can learn from a great carmaker. As in life, selling cars is a lot about being humble.

cheers

But they are Germans, not Indian.

There is only one country in the world that provides a fast-track immigration to 'Foreigners' (preferably with white skin) and treats its own citizens like refugees.

Is it any surprise then that the same people will brow-beat an Indian car even before they've seen it?

I'm sorry but I just cannot stand this horrible attitude.  People prefer to sing praises of an underpowered and cramped car with lousy plastics just because it has the badge of a manufacturer whose products have been rejected by this market in the very recent past.  While at the same time writing off a car by a manufacturer who has sold a few hundred thousand cars more than the other one, even before they've seen it.

We must be the people with the lowest self-esteem on this pla net.

PS:  Apologies if this went over-the-top, off-topic and has mostly nothing to do with the product under discussion here.  I just get totally pissed off by flippant, off-the-cuff remarks that rubbish the efforts of anyone, manufacturers, service providers or individuals.

Interestingly, not a line in the whole thread that rubbishes the efforts of anyone Where did you get this one from....do you believe that it's ok for a manufacturer to refuse test drive before booking?

This thread (until this post) admires the following companies' products : Tata motors, Hyundai, Toyata, BMW, Nissan, Daimler

On the other hand, I do see 'other' posts that seriously rubbish the efforts of Gio and Rio makers

Take it easy.

The Rio is not an effort to be taken seriously.  If that vehicle succeeds then there is something wrong with this market - it means we're still ready for Contessas and 118NEs.

The Gio, well the comments are there on the relevant thread.  Blind support would mean that we applaud the likes of the Mahindra Champion and the Force Minidor.

Rachit nice first drive there.

Few observations:

-TATA seems to have done a better job with integration of the boot than Maruti with the Dzire.

-the beige and silver interior would have benefited with a bit of black.

-TATA will have to be careful with the quality of plastics in this price range.

-the color changing tacho needle seems to be quite nice, though a permanent marking on the dial would have not felt out of place.
