hi i am amit and i need to buy a 4x4 right away, i need my friends to help & guide  me to

decide which one is better, by budget is around 13 lac. i want to install a hydrolic winch

so i know i need a Power Steering. The vehicle you may recommand might not have a P S

then where cn i get it installed ( i live in ahmedabad ). i am leaning towards Bolero slx 4x4 or

scorpio getaway  4x4,         Jeep mm550 4x4, is my dream but it does not have power

steering!

as i have said PS is a must for my winch.  I also want my vehicle to have a 4 inch lift kit and

matching mud tyres and rims  because a 4x4 without proper tyres is no 4x4 correct ?

Now about engines,  What are the limitation of the XD3PU, 2523cc DI Tyrbo Diesel and

CRDEe,

their pros and cons. Is it possible to ask the Dealer to request for an Option when i order or

it is a straight no, not possible !!!

1.  Why do you need a hydraulic winch when you can get good electric winches fitted?  Should cost you about 40-50k for a good electric winch.

2.  Therefore you dont need power steering.

3.  The MM540 can be retrofitted with power-steering, and this is easy because you really need a good brake-booster for the vehicle as its brakes are terrible.  I'd recommend that you buy a 2nd hand MM540, strip it down, raise it, plonk in a Scorpio brake-booster+power steering and attach an electric winch.  This will be your most cost-effective option with a total outlay of about 4 - 5 lakhs MAXX.  You can do most of this within about 3-3.5 lakhs too.

4.  THe other really serious option you should consider is a Gurkha from Force Motors.  You have the budget for it (costs about 7 lakhs) and therefore should do it - IMHO there is no better off-roader made in India today.  Its a bit of a pain trying to get Force to sell you one (would you believe it!) and then it takes some effort to QC it yourself after you buy it, but its an incredible vehicle for your purpose (Off-road ONLY).

5.  Have you considered the Gypsy King?  This is another great option, though not a very comfortable one - the lack of comfort shouldnt bother you much since your requirement is almost pure-offroad.

6.  You can also get a Mahindra Major 4x4 with the DI engine.

7.  Since you have the budget for it, you could also consider the Tata Xenon but I'm not a big fan of it for off-road use because of the large size and the rear overhang that it comes with.  Nevertheless it is a very comfortable vehicle that can take you offroad and still have a lot of storage space for camping, BBQ and other equipment.

Thanks for your sincere reply, i already have a hydrolic 10500 lbs (pounds) winch, the american

Marines ONLY approve and Use THIS winch, it can work under water and continuously, while the

electric winches get heated very quickly, slow down and burn out, they drain the battery very

quickly, faster

than your alternator (dynamo) can charge it. plus you need 650 CCA (32'F cold cranking amps )

or higher. Mile Marker.com is a very educative web site, you too will be a believer when you see

their real life comparitive videos and articles. Anyway, i did not understand what QC &  IMHO

mean, where can i buy the gurkha, and where do i buy the mud tyres and rims ?

By Offroad i mean crossing little rivers ,some sandy patches and little ditches and rock

crawling.

For crossing little rivers, some sandy patches, little ditches and some rock crawling - WHY DO YOU NEED A WINCH?  Leave alone one recommended by the Marines?

I dont know what the Marines use, but we do some reasonably serious off-road stuff ourselves and use electric winches without any issues.  So do most serious off-roaders I know.  In fact, if you are part of a group you dont even need a winch.

For the kind of usage you're looking at, you do not need an out-and-out off-roader.  Any vehicle with 4WD and decent ground clearance will do the job for you.  Go and get yourself a Xenon - its a fun vehicle but there is no market for it in India so you'll get yourself a VERY good discount.

I didnt realize you ALREADY had a hydraulic winch.  In that case there is no need for a debate on what type of winch you will be using.

Do keep in mind that winching is something you may only do once or twice in a year - and usually it only takes a tug with a winch to get the stuck vehicle to move.

You can have the hydraulic winch fitted to an MM540 if you modify it for power steering / brakes- which is an easy enough job.

I think no other vehicle suits your need like Gurkha. I would be approx. close to ten lacks on road, 8.40L being ex-showroom right now.

But looking at your offroad needs I would not recommend Gurkha. Your needs are small and I would suggest go for a used Pajero in that price which would be lot more comfortable and carry out your commands effortlessly. Do not forget to buy an anchor for your winch if you are planning to do these outings alone.
