One more doubt, please clarify.

I renewed my insurance in August and the NCB is 35% now.  I sold my car yesterday and planning to transfer my NCB to New proposed car.  What will be the NCB? 35% or next slab?

35%, the current slab.

Pankaj is a great help on all insurance matters here. I have a few questions.

I am selling off my M800 after having just renewed my policy with Bajaj Allianz. Sadly I had not transferred my NCB from my previous Esteem to the present M800. Since it was the first renewal last month, my NCB is 20%. I am buying a Estilo.

1. Do I have to wait till the old car ownership change documents are complete to be able to get NCB on my new purchase? I mean will I have to delay my purchase? The buyer of my old car may not be in any particular hurry to complete the transfer.

2. The old car is in my name. I would prefer to buy the new car in my wife's name. In that case will I still be able to transfer the NCB? Is there provision for joint ownership by which we can be joint owners and also claim the NCB?

I keep reminding myself that my car is just a means of commuting

1. NCB can be transferred only after the old car is transferred in the buyer's name.  Thereafter, the NCB can to be transferred to your new car within 3 months.

If you purchase a new car before transfer formalities of the old car is completed, you will need to pay full insurance premium - NCB can be claimed subsequently (within 3 months).

2. NCB is person specific - will not be available in your wife's name.  There is no provision of joint-ownership.  The vehicle is always registered in a single name.
