I once test drove a 60K run Vxi Ritz and was suprised by the poor cooling of the AC. My 2002 santro (87K) AC chills much faster in first speed compared to the ritz. I thot this was one stray case. Not many complains about this from Ritz owners too.

Has the cooling decreased in time or was same even when new? If this is a later issue, then an ac overhaul would help. Other thing to do is good quality sun control films. Back window, all side windows and a film about 1/4th on the top of the windshield.

There should not be any issue with AC in bangalore climate. I stay in Hosur.

As i said ealier:

Check if the car is cooling properly during night time, it so the problem is outside heat, get quality sun film with maximum heat reduction, it will help during day time.

Well as far as sunfilm is concern I have seen 100s of cars like i 10 , santro, swift, wagonR etc without any sunfilm even then the cooling of these cars are far better than RITZ (though I spent 4000 Rs in sunfilm and did not feel any kind of improvement).

I want to know that poor performance of AC in RITZ is common to all or only couple of RITZ are having this problem, please reply so that the problem can be solved.

I have read lots of reviews about RITZ , but no one pointed out about the poor performance AC

All your points are valid. However, sun control films may not be a solution to mask a poor quality. Films are banned in few places and are also a danger to road users as they prevent clear vision through the car for other drivers to see what is ahead of it. I have seen cars sporting almost opaque films-they create a blind spot on the road for drivers who believe in disciplined lane driving. I strongly encourage drivers to avoid sun films in their cars to help prevent crimes and forced accidents as mentined. Infact sun films are banned even in hot countries like the Gulf for above reason. Our govt needs to enforce this in interest of public safety.

That being said, the AC on my Ritz has been like this right from the begenning when I bought it. I have complained about it at every service to the service incharge who invariably has returned it with "OK". This is not a progressing problem with the the car's age. I have only used my car for 13k km to date, and hence do not feel that is the issue. Out station drives in daylight are also a problem becouse the AC is least effective then. Incedentally, I have seen other cars ( non Maruti) where the AC to be more effective.

I feel there is a design shortcomming here from Maruti. By the way, the A/c at night is ok- cool as Baqngalore sports temp arount 20-25C. So I guess the AC has a smaller challenge then. I feel day temps are a better test in validating the ac's effectiveness.

Hi,

I do own a RITZ and I have not faced AC cooling problems. I generally open the window, drive the car for few 100 meters, start the AC with blower at 2 and within a minute or two the cabin completely cools. So I do not think its a problem with Ritz as such. But IMO Hyundai i10's AC is one of the best (i20 is worst though!). It cools the cabin in seconds.

By the by, I always use re-circulation mode for AC. After maybe 15-20 min, I open the window once to get some fresh air and continue with the same mode. I read somehwere that if external air is dirty, it can lead to clogging of AC duct and cause poor cooling. Hence have followed this practise religiously from the beginning.

Urgent !!

Hi friends

After following all the tricks mentioned here. I am again going to take my RITZ LXI to MASS to rectify the poor performance of AC (althogh they have checked it twice before). With reference to the above posts, will u plz suggest me the probable solutions.

Comments from Ritz owners would be highly appreciated if they come up with any solution.

This is a very important point to be noted. If you enable ventilation, the cooling in Ritz is very poor. But if we put in re-circulation (both LEDs ON), it gives very good cooling even in position 2. Another point about Maruti compressors is that they are all outsourced (makes like Delphi are used). It could be the same case with other makes of cars as well. There is no way we can choose the product used for A/C. They randomly fit what is currently available in the market. Probably there is difference in quality depending on the make of A/C used. The service centre people can identify the make. Compare if the make of A/C is same for your car and some other Ritz where the cooling is OK. Tomy

Dear Mayank, Hope the AC is effective now. Kindly inform if any improvements were made by the MASS guys. imo, its either a faulty compressor or blocked ducts. get this sorted asap when car is under warrenty.
