Karuna... Where do we get those pads ? from showroom itself ? Wat would be the additional cost ?

All TATA service stations will be able to do this job. Companies like Wurth, 3M and a few others' products can be used for this purpose. The cost is approximately Rs. 4,000. If you buy the car, you have all such info on your user manual. You may also get such information from TATA motors web site.

I dont know what pads these are, but the test vehicle I drove didnt need any noise deadening - it was VERY refined.

You are a bit lucky or I should consider the dealer thru whom you got the TD may be a better organised one. If they do the predelivery inspections and then offer the car to you, you sure are to get a good impression of the vehicle. On the contrary, I had test driven the vehicle at Chennai Tafe. The vehicle offerred had very hard clutch and a stiff steering wheel. I had even commented on these negetive aspects in one of the earlier discussions.

However, VST motors challenged me and gave me a good vehicle for TD and subsequently sold a vehicle to me. I do not have such complaints - the clutch is very refined, accelerator is soft because it is of sensor type in Manza and the steering is smooth enough, the cabin noise was in acceptable levels. Still I went ahead and fixed the sound deadening pads for additional comfort.

You're talking about dampening.  This is available for all cars, usually at audio dealers because it is mostly used in good ICE installs.  Yes it helps cut out road noise when fixed on the doors, etc but its primary purpose is to reduce vibrations around the speaker mounts.

The major brands are Dynamat, Wurth, Noisekill, etc.

So do we conclude Manza needs dampening by Dynamat/similar material to reduce engine noise in cabin to levels comparable to other mainstream diesel cars?? I find that tough to swallow!

So do I.  At least 4 friends of mine have TD'ed the vehicle, all of whom were actually very (pleasantly) surprised by the levels of refinement.  You can also refer to the Overdrive shootout where they've mentioned the surprisingly quiet cabin in the Manza.

However, dealers will be dealers.  After all, 99% of them offer you a silicone paste rub in the name of "teflon coating" and a rubber-solution spray in the name of "rust proofing".

Dampening seems to be the new eye wash from the dealers !

Would like to know from Karunanidhi the details of what was done for 4K.What square feet of material was used and where the same was used?

Had a trip to Shirdi after 1 st service including travel through busy cities like Hyderabad, Pune, Nasik, Aurangabad. Total distance travelled was 1970 KM and total fuel used was 103.89 Ltr. (Tank full to Tank full). Average of 19 KMPL.

In this thread, we had

1. analysis of the features of both cars

2. TD experiences and comments

3. Ownership experiences

If we consider this as a mile stone of this thread, are we conlcuding that Manza has an upper hand over Dzire ?

There was no insistance from the dealer. I found this recommendation on the TATA web site even before I purchased the Manza. This kind of sound deadening is not a specific recommendation for Manza; but a general recommendation for all cars of all makes to improve vibration/ noise dampening. No one compels any one to do this. It is for an added comfort level. I strongly suggest every one to go for the underbody antirust coat. Sound deadening is ones own choice, depending on what cars and comforts one has been used to in the past.

I had done both sound deadening and antirust coating for my Manza, not through any of these car dealers, but directly from "Wurth" personnel. They have done the sound deadening on all the four doors, the sides of the boot and the bonnet area. I do not have the specifics of the area covered Iin Sq. ft. or so. These are proprietary products & they have their own cost. More than the cost of the material, the labour involved is quite considerable. When we spend about 20 or 30 k for alloy whells and about 12 or 15 K for reverse parking aids like the camera and the sonic sensors, about 1.5 K for additional horns and above all about 700 K for the car, I do not consider the 4 k for the sound deadening a prodigal waste of money.

Todays customers like you and I are well informed. No one can entice us to do this and that - please note that I do not intend to offend any one, nor do I support the dealers. I have only recorded my plain opinion.

May I wish all those on this thread A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
