@Great Nitin...reaching Kanpur in flat 5 hrs is really amazing !

I have just chnaged the tyre in my Wagon R after a lot of research and recomendation by tyreguru. I replaced all 4 MRF stock tyre with Michelin xm+ tubeless tyres. I went to Kasauli last weekend and must say the grip of tyre was excellent. It was raining and the grip I found during the rain was excellent.

Really looking for driving through Agra - Kanpur-Lucknow - Gorakhpur .. till my home town in Bihar. Not sure about the road condition after Lucknow. Heard that Lucknow - Gorakhpur got good road.

Hey buddy  as a veteran driver i would sugest that while you are driving onto a route which is a long way from delhi to gorakhpur , keep a couple of things in mind and make a mandate checklist while going out for the ride . Always ensure that your vehicle is in a helathy state when going for a long journey like this , and also  ensure you have a  spare bulb set , few electric fuses , a torch ,a  screw driver and a plier while plying on a highway as this can come handy to you anytime . While you are moving on the highway make sure that the pressure in the tyre is 2 points less than the normal one , coz when u drive on such long highways , pressure in tyres automatically increases due to the heat generated by the tyres , Also ensure you carry enough snacks and water bottles with you bcoz after agra and till kanpur u hardly get any good places to stop or to eat so just keep this things in mind and enjoy ur ride . DO tell me your experiences when you are back from your journey ....Take care Njoy Wink

Hi Nitin,

I would beg to differ here.I think the tyre pressure should rather be around 1-2 psi higher on the highway than normal. I had stuck to this and have'nt had any problem so far during my long journeys. It only adds to better handling and mileage, the ride would be a bit bumpier though.

You may like to have a look here as well.

Hi Nitin and Ankit,

Thanks for your valuable inputs. I finished by journey yesterday and thought of sharing my experiences here. Started on 23rd oct (Sunday) at 4.30 am from Sonepat. Reached Agra in 4 hrs. Faced little traffic from Agra to Kanpur.Besides, locale people were never hesitant of crossing the NH without waiting for vehicles to pass by. Every thing was going well till i reached Kanpur. Took the flyover route and after covering around 17km on flyover got stuck in jam at the end of it. Lot of construction work is going on in Kanpur and it took 2 hrs to get down of the flyover and another 2 hrs to come out of Unnao. I reached Lucknow at 5.30 pm. Took an hour break in Lko and started for Gorakhpur. From Lko to Gkp is a pleasant surprise except for the vehicles coming from wrong side. Barabanki,Faizabad are bypassed by flyovers and one can easily cover the distance from Lko to gkp in apprx 4.5-5 hrs. Reached Gorakhpur at 11 pm. And yes, my ritz-vxi gave me a mileage of 18kmpl with 50% ac on. While returning from gorakphur, i got stuck on NH-28. A truck broke down and we had to wait for 2 hours to cover 10 kms because of jam. One thing which i felt disturbing was that people kept on crosssing the roads with their cattle and at times, they try to make them hop over the divider. While returning i did not face any jam or traffic in kanpur. Reached Kanpur in 2 hrs from Lko. From there onwards, it was movement of trucks which was pushing us to go slow. In day time, they behave nicely, maintain lane driving and after it gets dark, they become king of the roads. Number of trucks were very high till Itawa and it reduced significantly after Agra.May be they get diverted to Jaipur as well. But it is trouble driving in glaring lights from across the road and opposite lane. Moreover it was a very good experience.Would like to thanks members of this forum for sharing their bits so that others can get benefited.

Regards,

Ravish
