Recently I busted my taillight while backing my car. Thought I was done for Rs. 3k (if bought from ASS) or something. Enquired in the Auto market (old Delhi), got to know "Genuine" taillight is for 1700-2000 depending on how much they want to charge - Then enquired about "Taiwan" make, purchased it for 600/- got it fixed for 100 bucks, so total outgo = 700 Smile  - Much better than the Insurance+ASS trap.

Get familiar with your local auto market - it helps. Quite a lot, sometimes.

It's a good thing that you got it done cheap, but be a bit wary of stuff manufacturd in China/Taiwan - they have a reputation of not lasting long.

Well, I did not see much of a difference in quality, except there can be minor variations in fine dimensions as the molds are reverse engineered.

My only thought when I bought it was -  Hey I can bust THREE of these for the price of ONE genuine one!Laughing

Pawan -When you take your car to Chandni Chowk, go from Red fort towards GPO, cross it, and move towards ISBT Kashmiri gate. The Auto market starts right at the corner where you turn to go towards Old Delhi Metro Station. There are several shops, and just enquire around, talk to people, before actually stepping into a shop and asking for stuff. There may be a lot of variation in the prices but they may not bargain much. The mechanic will usually be loitering around the entrance, and will fix stuff in no time. Don't offer more than 50 bucks for changing the taillight, as the task is trivial (Not worth taking the trouble of doing it yourself, though)
