I own 2 Altis' 2008.

My dealer is from Calicut, Amana Toyota.

I used to obeserve extensive carbon deposit on the allow wheels. I reported this issue when the cars where some 3000 KMs run. Dealer said: "Common thing for all toyota !"

I'll explain the remaining timeline.

10,000 KM: Did periodic service. Dealer said "The pads are almost getting out"

12,000 KM: Scratchy noice from the wheels

15,000 KM: Noice get's extreme, I called up and they said, nothing worry, we will fix it in the next service

18,000 KM: Even wrost case. I decided to do the periodic service earlier. Reported problems with Breaking system clearly and person did the test run got the noice. He mentioned "Everybody have problem with the break, we are looking into it". All my break disks had heavy scratches . They skimmed all the break pads (!!!), replaced the front break under warranty for being faulty parts. No noise when I'm leavinsg the service centre.

18500 KM: THE NOISE AGAIN from both front and rear wheels. I went to service centre again. I demanded to get all the parts to be fixed under warranty. Also demanded to replace the Disk system and get me a quality product. Though the guys in the service centre were speaking without points (like the politicians), I decided to leave the vehicle there as they needed further inspection.

It's been 4 days and no reply from Toyota yet. When I call them, they are saying "TKM yet to respond".

Please help me and advice the next steps.

I checked some 5 friends who own Altis and they experience the same problem. Changing Pads in every 15,000 KMs spending around 12,000 Rs is a nightmare. I'm a toyota user for the past 15 years and I never saw such a shame from Toyota service. It's also such a shame for Toyota to have their customers begging and negotiating for warranty.

Any thoughts?

Had further searches for problems like this and I found many others experiencing the same problem from 2008 onwards.

This going to be a huge problem which eventually affects people's trust on Toyota. I'll think twice next time about a Toyota.

mayb the pads are designed in a way that it allows more air to cool? and thus letting dust enter and scratch the discs?

I guess you should not have left the car at the service center for the replacement. Approach the center, get the job card to represent a warranty claim and bring in the car when the parts are available.

In the meantime get in touch with the regional toyota office. Do keep us updated.

Binoy, Thanks. In fact that's what I have done fist time. When the issue shown up again, Dealer they "They need to record the problem (on a tape?!) and send to TKM to provide me warranty for Break". TKM should had a timeline for attending cases like this, yet more than 2 days is un-acceptable.

Adam, agree, May be a bad design.

Torn Break Pad in 12,000-14,000 KM !!!  What you guys say about it ?   Mine is not an independent case.

It is a shame for Toyota. As Binoy had said, shoot a strong email in detail to Toyota's regional office.  You would have met others at the dealership with similar problem. Ask them to send complaint to Toyota Reg. Office too.

Never mind what others say, do whats right for that moment!

Firdous, first time am hearing about a warranty issue that needs to be 'recorded' to be set right.

Do take the same with a pinch of salt.

About the issue parse, the pads are designed for more than double the kms that you have done, having said that there have been cases of premature wear. A cedia sport of an acquaintance wore its front pads in 11K straight, but the car was mostly driven in ghat sections and in a way that would honor the name of the car(sport!).

Abnormal wear can also occur due to a wrapped disc(but then the symptoms for the same are different), another aspect to consider is the usage of 'local' parts by the dealer, but this is something that would be hard to establish.

Keep us posted with how this shapes out.

Got the vehicle back without fixing anything. Per dealer, the TKM representative will fly to Calicut to inspect my car "may be in couple of days" [ God I can't believe the way they speak ]. Dealer said they will send a driver to my home to pick the car.

I still have the break noice.

Service guys confirmed that this is premature wearing. For the rear tires, The skimming was done in just 300 Kms before and now the scratches in Disk again. Bizarre ! The pad is just 2.4 mm now.

The "recording" was done using a mic on the wheals to capture the sound. You know what interesting, it can't capture the tone the human can get hahaha... ROFL.

Anyway, the TKM guys are coming "may be in couple of days", I'll keep you posted.

Selva, Thanks for advice. Let me see what Toyota has to say officially about the faulty parts and warranty. If it's not favorable, I'll escalate. If it's favorable, I have to compain only about the time delay and "beg for warranty you stupid customers" approach.
