Better go for petrol car as diesel would not be viable for you. Go for linea EK or try wait till 14th October as new SX4 will be launched.

Verna is old now and cheap interiors.

I guess Honda city is little costly for me. I am looking for other options. I understand petrol car would cost me around 50k less. However I am worried about the cost of the petrol. Shouldn't I?

Thanks,

Gerald Leslie Jones.

Gerald,

You are looking for looks, mileage, comfort and ABS.  When it comes to looks and mileage Linea is very good. ABS is avaialbae in Linea specific models.  When it comes to safety Linea is far better than others as the braking distance of Linea is very less compared to any other sedan incuding Civic, Camry or Accord. Further typically European cars have solid build quality compared to tinny build of Jap cars.

As far as ride and handling as well as roadgrips is concerned, no other sedan gives as much comfort and confidence as Linea.

Now to decide between Petrol or Diesel

The price difference between petrol and Diesel for Linea or Verna will be about 90000.  For your kind of usage (500 city and 200 Highway) you should be able to recover the cost difference in about 3.6 years. (Assumptions - Petrol /Diesel price are 48.24 and 34.82)

hence if you plan to keep your car for longer periods, then it really makes sense to for Linea Diesel.

You should not even consider Honda City because you get the Diesel Linea at the price of Petrol City with much better features and lower running costs as well as spare parts cost.

@ gerald,

go in for the linea diesel.

it is a better car than its petrol version & will give u low running costs as well & is also fun to drive.

if u have a budget for diesel linea & are willing to pay than dont think about anyother options as once when u buy ull come to know.

rite now u will save some money & go for petrol & when ull run the car & that time feel that it is not giving me that much fun & mileage & all, else it is better to go for a diesel linea which has class leading fuel efficiency figures & the engine has that punch also.

if u have a diesel car & if u want to go somewhere long than u can go easily whereas in petrol ull have to think twice before making a plan.

go for linea diesel man.

All, Thanks for the suggestions. I have been getting very useful information through this and they are very useful. However I am concerned about the following points of linea. 1) Post sale service in tata is not at all good. I agree that it changes from dealer to dealer. I would like to understand your experience. Will really help if I come to know about chennai. 2) Are linea's interiors as good and strong as other cars like Verna or Fiesta? 3) I have not seen much lineas in bangalore or chennai. Is it because it is recently launched or any other reasons? 4) Is maintenance high for diesel cars? Especially for linea? 5) How is the acceleration in linea diesel. I understand it is 1200cc, which is less when I compare against other cars. (However I would not mind much about this). Thanks, Gerald Leslie Jones.

Concorde is good but stay away from Tafe reach as on of the Punto users had a bad experience.Anyway check them both out

 2) Are linea's interiors as good and strong as other cars like Verna or Fiesta?

Platic quality is not as bad as u think.

3) I have not seen much lineas in bangalore or chennai. Is it because it is recently launched or any other reasons?

Linea sells a 1000 units per month even Sx4 has same figures

4) Is maintenance high for diesel cars? Especially for linea?

With the extended warranty most of ur worries are wiped out,Linea diesl has the cheap maintenance chek in linea website

5) How is the acceleration in linea diesel. I understand it is 1200cc, which is less when I compare against other cars. (However I would not mind much about this).

Actually it is 1300 cctuned for city driving so no worries

1) Service - As a owner for Fiat Linea diesel for last few months, and based on my service epxerience at bangalore, I would say it is pretty good.

2) Interiors - I would say the interiors of Linea are good though not exceptional like in Civic or Fabia but strong (these doubts generally come up due to the experience people had with Uno, Palio or Siena). Fiat makes the Linea just the same way - including inetrior plastics and everything as they sell in Europe and other global markets.(except for removing some features like rain sensor etc) unlike few car manufactureres who downgrade or modify for India.

3) Linea is a recent launch and cumulative sales is only 10000+ so far. Hence this is normal. Further people who investigate like you before shelling out their money for buying a car only see the value of different cars against their needs but still there are several who just buy what everyone else buys or what what everyone suggests - like old "Bajaj Scooter days".

4) Maintenance - Linea Diesel has the lowest spare parts cost compared to any other sedan and you can check this at Fiat website. Further Linea comes with 15000 KMS service inetrvals - highest among the cars. Hence the overall cost of ownership will be less for Linea

5) Acceleration - Everyone says Linea is underpowered. If we look at cc, bhp, torque, power and everything on paper it looks not impresive performance wise. But it is a very comfortable to drive in City as it has good enough low end grunt combied with driveablity (even 15KMPH in 4th gear)

Coming to acceleration -

0 to 100 - Linea - 15 seconds, Optra - 10.9, City - 10.3, Civic - 9.6, Verna - 11.3

But

20 to 80 - Linea - 11.8, Optra - 12.8, City - 12.9, Civic - 12.3, Verna - 12.3

40 to 100 - Linea - 13.6, Optra - 14.9, City - 16.7, Civic - 16.4, Verna -  16.4

If you drive in a race with clear tracks in front of you, then Linea will lag - which is not real life situaion. You are lareday at or above 30 and inthis normal range - no other sedan can beat Linea in acceleration.

You have to drive it to see how on paper and road are different and it is a delight to drive on highways.

@ gerald,

dont worry much abt service & all. tata/fiat are good on service & are improving day by day.

linea comes with 4yrs warranty so not to worry at least for next 4 yrs.

linea has the longest service intervals that is 15000kms which means lesser visits to service stations & less hassles.

linea is a wonderful car, just go for it.
