As members of carwale own (together) a large number of types of cars, over time, it's possible for carwale members to post prices of spares (not just regular replacement parts) that they actually PAY at the service center. This will help immensely to new buyers. Members can post price of a particular part as of a particular date for a specific model. The site can maintain tables of that. That way new buyers can have really good idea on which car to buy.

It may take time for the prices data to build up but it will. This will help customers greatly. Not sure if there's any site that does spares cost for Indian cars.

cheers

Nice suggestion.  There's a similar suggestion - on service & maintenance cost.  The purpose of the two (suggestions) are same.  Hope something comes through.

Honesty is not a Spare Wheel that you pull out when in trouble. It's a Steering Wheel that keeps you on the right path throughout the life's journey.

I would like to have an official comment on this issue - We know that CarWale is not just a bunch of folks discussing cars, but the site and the backing company has business relations with (almost) all the car manufacturers. It is therefore possible for them to have an official list of spare prices available.

If we upload this information, it will be a sea of posts, and the retrieval of data will be very difficult and cumbersome process, I would therefore like to see a part detail to be as a record in a database, with its prices for all car models listed as fields of that data. Let us take an example of air filter - Every car will have an OEM air filter, and therefore we create a part "air filter". This part can have a different value depending on the car make, So each model will have a different value for it. Similarly we can have wiper blades, Brake pads, Brake plates, steel rims, O2 sensor, MAP sensor, Catalytic converter, timing belt, ECM, fuel pump, fuel filters, oil filters, etc. etc.

What I want from the official response is, will there be official programming support for this feature - the data will come from the forum users, but the programming support should be from site developers. Alternatively the data also can be fetched from the manufacturers through the relationships the site owners have with manufacturers, and there will be no need to depend on unreliable feedback from the forum users.

Onely problem I feel here is about the local taxes and the variation in prices because of that factor. Anyways, the information should be good for a first approximation, and the dealers will not then be able to fleece the customers at will, and charge twice thrice or multiple times of the original spare cost. (e.g. someone just mentioned 50k for a ford icon AC compressor - which is ridiculous)

Looking forward to the official response.

@Krishna

Yup though what you said is more methodical, wonder if carmakers would share spares catalogue (including prices) with Carwale. If that can happen, nothing like it. In that case, as you said, it requires significant efforts from site-technology.
