Hi all, I was planning to go for my first car early 2007 (been driving my dad's cars for past 10 years) and wanted some good advise on the points below, 1)my budget is around 3L to 4L and had various options ranging from a brand new small car to pre owned midsized car.i finally zeroed in on IKON 1.3 flair 2) I have heard people say that the maintenance cost is high in FORD vehicles,My useage is very less, my office is 4.5kms from home and mileage is not of great concern and can manage with 10-12kms/ltr and occational long drives, say about 500kms once in 2 months, i am very confused regarding the maintenance cost of the vehicle. 3) Can anyone let me know that if i manage to get a well maintained car with low mileage would maintenance be a problem considering my useage. thanks in advance, vinay

If you drive more, its inevitable that maintenance would be more in same proportion. Since your daily running is too little, maintenance won't be bothering one. If you really find a good conditioned, well-maintained Ikon, there is no harm in buying. However my suggestion would be you go for Ikon 1.6 rather than Flair. In 4 lakh range, used Maruti Baleno too can be considered.

Hi again Sharmaji, please guide me to choose between the option of used midsized car v/s new small car as i am fully confused regarding this. will it be a good idea to go for a new xeta 1.2 (which works out much cheaper)instead of a used ikon 1.3 flair considering my useage as mentioned earlier and one more thing is that i wish to keep the car for at least 5 years as i don't wish to get rid of my possessions quite easliy Things i wish to keep in mind while deciding. 1) luxury and comfort 2) Fashion statement 3) maintenance and operating cost(mileage not constaraint due to limited useage) 4) and at last resale value after 5 years. Regards, vinay

No Vinay, Ikon 1.6 is not diesel car, its Petrol only. Ikon 1.8 is Diesel one. Ikon 1.6's performance is impeccable, since you are going to drive just 5 kms a day, why not driving a car full of josh? New small car is better considering your preferences for maintenance, resale and love for possessions. Xeta won't be a good idea for a longer time, you better think of a car like Zen Estilo or Santro Xing.
