Driving/Travel Plans for the National Meet

Two of our friends are driving RIGHT NOW from Mumbai to Delhi.  Their target is 36 hours (including an overnight break).  They've just crossed Jaipur and are on schedule to reach Delhi on target.

The vehicle they're travelling in - a bright yellow TATA NANO.

But may be the first persons in India to take trip in a Nano

Did they use the aircon

The story so far - with aircon it gives about 20 kmpl, without aircon 22.something.   Full report is on Team BHP, one of the chaps is a very good personal friend which is how I get the news (though we get it live over Facebook!)

That's great news - Nano.

As far as driving down the SX4 from Delhi to Mumbai is concerned, it should approximately take 20-22 hours of driving (with normal breaks, excluding night break).  A single person should ideally, in my opinion, not be driving more than 8-10 hours per day.  In this case, as there would be 4-5 people/members, each can drive 5-6 hours conveniently.  It would be comfortable (4) & quite safe.

The fuel efficiency will improve while Krishna is on the steering wheel - P&G method 

Doing P&G, we would take about half a day extra, though. My extremes of P&G (Highest effective speed) is 90-50, giving an effective 65 kmph.

You can do that on Petrol when CNG Stations are not available

Jokes apart, it's not a bad idea - driving down in the car - given the number of people/members around to drive & for the fact that SX4 is comfortable & safe.  Would be a fun, I guess.

I too might drive my car to the National Meet.

Well NANO !! Thats actually an act of bravery i must say !! I mean its a "little" Engine. We are talking about the number of hours a person should drive and stuff. And everyone deciding the speeds. But NANO ? i Think the little car needs to sleep too !  I won't be taking a car which had got no safety features. So my WagonR is not going, "she" has already said "no!" hehe. About joining someone else. I am not sure right now.

This is getting interesting guys. It will certaily be fun to drive down from Delhi to Mumbai. I think 4 people in a car for this kind of journy will make things comfertable rather then having 5 people in a car. but if the enthusiasam permits then 5 is certainly no harm.

CNG available in all majore cities , may be you might have to get inside the city instead of continuing on the highway,.

They got to Delhi within the targetted timeframe - left Mumbai on Oct 3rd at 6 am and reached Delhi at 6 pm the next day.

Thats after an unplanned 2 hour stopover to see Pranlal Bhogilal's vintage collection on the way, 2 unscheduled stops to meet friends outside a couple of cities and one deviation from the NH.

Plus of course the overnight halt at Udaipur.  They didnt drive at night.

According to the two guys who did it, the Nano is a superstar.  No fatigue, plenty of space and can keep up with traffic on our highways.
