Events like this normally start off with a fixed dates. It would be difficult to build consensus online as trying to meet everyones convenience would be difficult. There would always be unhappy souls. If you recall, even I started the delhi meet thread with a more or less fixed date. Imagine if I had started the thread asking for a date, maybe we would still have been debating.
At the same time, if some thought has already been devoted to the concept, then all the cards should be put on the table in one go. Its frustrating for people to debate an issue only to realise thats its outcome is already pre decided. People would feel used.
Maybe, the mods / core group needs to sit down and decide on certain meet related issues that would be deemed as fixed. (if everything is left open we would be looking at a meet in dec '10) The consensus from the from would then fill in the rest. This would be more constructive, less frustrating and quicker. Maybe we should hold the debate till a clearer picture emmerges.
