National Meet (CW Forums) at Mumbai on 19-20/Dec/09 (details at post 96 - pg10)

The National Meet (1-2 days, as stated before) was discussed & decided upon on 4-5/09 (a month back).  It was decided/scheduled for 1^st or 2^nd week of December – before Christmas vacation – so that it doesn’t clash with any family outings (3^rd week onwards).

The venue was decided as Mumbai for the fact that the host/CarWale & its team are Mumbai-based.  The 2^nd reason is that majority of the members are based in that region – Mumbai & down South.  Logically Mumbai should, therefore, be the venue for National Meet.

Dates could either be Dec 5-6 or 12-13 (Sat-Sun).  Even 19-20 is fine but it may be too close for some who are planning Christmas vacation (generally commencing Dec 23-24).

Let's see what others have to say.

i think the WHEN is pretty much answered by you.

But my question now is, (before putting in further sub-discussions) that should we wait for the people to respond to the date(s) or should we keep them as tentative dates, which have been fixed now? The info you gave in your previous post, was it decided @ forums itself ? i Am just asking since i haven't read any other Meet-threads other than the Delhi one.

I really cant make before 14th december due to exam issues so kindly bear with me...

It was discussed/decided amongst the Mods & announcement was awaited.  The approach/idea of this thread I guess is clear from the Banwari's post #3.  My posts have said what discussion/ decision was taken & the reasoning, and invites what others have to say.

The best interest - to the extent possible - will be taken care of (venue & date/s).  It may still not suit all - a few of us will obviously have to adjust in larger interest.

Let us wait for views of others.

Edit: Karan, majority/larger interest (as stated above) will be taken care of (without poll/s).  Others will respond & a view will be taken suitably.  We have sufficient time - it's designed so.

yes that's another way of doing it. It ofcourse won't suit all. But i hope you guys have the best possible way to make it as convenient to as many as possible.

Time- Well as of now we have time. Will keep a tab on this thread , and be an active part of it, unlike last time .

Events like this normally start off with a fixed dates. It would be difficult to build consensus online as trying to meet everyones convenience would be difficult. There would always be unhappy souls. If you recall, even I started the delhi meet thread with a more or less fixed date. Imagine if I had started the thread asking for a date, maybe we would still have been debating.

At the same time, if some thought has already been devoted to the concept, then all the cards should be put on the table in one go. Its frustrating for people to debate an issue only to realise thats its outcome is already pre decided. People would feel used.

Maybe, the mods / core group needs to sit down and decide on certain meet related issues that would be deemed as fixed. (if everything is left open we would be looking at a meet in dec '10) The consensus from the from would then fill in the rest. This would be more constructive, less frustrating and quicker. Maybe we should hold the debate till a clearer picture emmerges.

Well, we are talking about a National meet and everyone will have an opinion on the dates. My view is that its extremely difficult to satisfy all and therefore the 1st / 2nd weekend of December should be fixed as the definite date ASAP so that people from outside the Mumbai region can start planning to get here.

As far as I am concerned, I will make sure I attend this meet.

Guys, let us add our own names for an initial commitment, so that it is easier for organizing the event. Just copy/modify the two lines above to include your name, add 1 to the count and repost.

But beware - this reposting commits you to attend the meet, most likely in Mumbai, most likely in 1st/2nd weekend of December.

Briefly speaking… ultimately/soon venue & date will be finalized/announced keeping in view the larger interest.  Members will be requested/insisted upon to participate, and necessary follow-ups will be made to ensure the numbers.
