The idea is to meet people we have been interacting in the forum. Right now, we all are invisible people, we live in virtual world and have virtual identities. With the help of this meet, we will be real people with real identities. We will be together for quite some time as part of a team. From the time we meet and till the time we depart, we will be living a life dedicated to cars and all of us. If we bring our families and friends, our time and dedication will be shared.
Apart from this, our friends/families won't be comfortable because they know nothing about our forum, hot discussions and the people, they cannot relate to anything we are going to discuss there. While we will have extreme enthusiasm, they will feel bored.
So, IMHO we should not invite any of our friends at all. If we have to, invite them to join the forum first and leave their meet-joining decision on the fact that they wish to do that or not. No point in dragging them into our business. Bringing families along should be encouraged only if we feel our spouces will enjoy our enthusiasm and they are comfortable with a new group.
