i went and enquired today, these are my observations:

1.for short distance viewing plasma suits better

2.plasmas have a melowed kind of picture while lcd s have sharper,in your face picture, plasmas are cheaper by 20k for 42 inch size

3.for open spaces plasmas suit better

4.plasmas might have the tendency to reflect objects on screen and warm up the surroundins with heat, consume more power

5.LG JAZZ THEATRE 42 INCH costs about 61.5k,has 5.1 ch sound,200 hz,better dynamic contrasts,if one opts for samsung lcd 6 series would be better but cost 10k more

6.sony lcd has lesser feautres and a bad pink colour

7.for viewing tv channels better to go for airtell and sundirect, both of which only have mpeg4 technology, which would be better on lcd s,if anyother service provider without mpeg4 plasmas suite better for tv viewing

8.lg model called something like cq-42 inch costs 41k looks cool

9.when viewed close lcd image is smugged and one wonders if the old CRT tvs are better!

10.do you think it's advisable to waste 60k rs on tvs which show you a blurred picture???????!(most of the showroom guys show the images from a blue ray disc which makes you fall for flat pannels, ask them to switch over to cable viewing, they will not do that!)

so people please pass a judgment

Thanks Bala for the update.

The Plasmas can also have issues of 'burn in'- but for the current prices they are a steal.

Also when doing to the showroom-do set all the sets 'Picture' settings to 'Default' as the cunning sales guys will set better contrast and brightness for the sets that 'They' want to sell(having a bigger margin) !!

Was true in the past, but with current plasma screens that have a lifetime of a few million hours its hard to see how that will be an issue - except of course if you use plasma screens for 24x7 displays like in the airports.  That is why they use LCDs for that purpose - clarity and blurring are also not issues for static display purposes.

Try watching action (F1, Football, etc) on an LCD and Plasma side by side (both in default setting) and you'll see what I mean.  Plasma rendition of action is natural, which is not exactly the case in LCDs.

What you also dont realize is that LCDs dont show "black" naturally - black has to be 'created' on LCDs.

The current plasma liftime is more than sufficient for heavy personal usage over several years - very much more than the average turnaround time by when you will buy a new unit.

For Plasmas, Panasonic and Hitachi are probably the best.  Pioneer used to be pretty good, but I understand they've left this market now.

LG/Sony/Samsung - mostly for LCDs not Plasmas.  The Sharp Aquos or whatever its called is quite good too.

Check ventilation around the installation space when installing a plasma. They are as good as room  heaters, and if put in closed confined places like a TV cabinet, they could literally cook themselves to failure.
