Well most of the Cars with ABS comes Loaded with EBD as well...although synonymous they may sound but are diff technologies...Thats the myth i have been cleared off due to my Experience with the same...

Another important Info is:

1.ABS acts while car is deaccelerating fast...

2.Traction control acts while you Accelerate[preventing tyre skidding, specially on ice/slippery surface]

3.EBD acts to prevent side roll and thereby further improving Car handling on the curves...

Pufffff !!!...

The link is good for someone who really wants to understand it in the class-room manner.

Considering you're a doc, you did have Physics at school level. Which i did not. So its Greek, LAtin, Persian, Spanish--All the same for me !

Jokes apart, the link is a good one. But the explanations are too complicated, with too many technical terms !

EBD is awesome technology...

The specific implementation matters. EBD is a concept that will continue to evolve. I can come up with a couple of sensors and rudimentory logic in brake force distribution and call it EBD whereas the people at Mercedes-Benz (most innovative) may have extremely complicated real-time algorithms requiring hundreds of 'measurements' to continuously vary brake force. Companies like Suzuki may say 'we have that too' but it's *not the same* thing, unless of course when there's  complete standardization.

Hondas cost more than Marutis and Mercs cost more than Hondas for a good reason that often cannot be compared feature-to-feature. I tried the accord V6 VTEC the other day. Within a small distance it can slow down from 140 to near zero without any stress to the driver. What do you call it? How do you compare it feature-to-feature with competition? At some point you have to leave it to experience, something you get immersed into, is beyond specifications, but still a factor that distinguishes.

No ones denying what Mercs and Others of the same genre has to offer...

These companies started off way too early...Keeping in mind the companies that have emerged in recent past dont have rights to most of the patented technologies...

Still thats the very reason why companies at the other end of the spectrum trying harder than ever to develop their "firsts"

That Gives more scope for newer and better technology developing every fortnight[exaggeration lol]

Mercs and the similar brands are way too above the normal mans reach...

Balance is what is more important...You just cant keep on developing everything new and putting it in every new model you launch...It takes time for the consumers[Avg consumers],to benefit from these technologies...newer upgrades and the likes...

So in the end my vote goes for the People who in this world are not looking up at moon and mars but to help people have better yet efficient, economical vehicles which dont become outdated over few years...

So you can say its kinda mixed response from my side...

Keeping aside my reservations for SUZUKI...Cool LOL

And yes people at Bosch call it EBD,The one at NISSAN is also named differently, although at the end of the day all are based on the similar principles...

Rajendra My Reference to EBD was not Brand oriented,Rather was more or less like a personal experience with the same...

Hi all,

let me share my experience here. It happened a couple of years back . I was travelling in SX4 (its a VXi with no ABS & EBD) . That year the particular highway was coated with mastic asphalt (another disastrous surface for cars specially when its raining) . I knew f the hazard and was driving cautiously at 80kmph (in SX4 its normal speed) A tempo in front of me carrying CNG bareels suddenly skid and as a impulsive reaction i applied breaks immediately (perhaps forcefully) and there it went ...my car also skidded to left..it was the first time i was experiencing skidding and take my word its horrible feeling. My wife and small kid were sitting in front left seat and while skidding i saw i huge trailer passing on the left side .Like i had read somewhere about such situation i had let go of the accelarator and breaks as well . I steered my car to right and luckily it hit the divider and came back to normal. Those few minutes were worst. I dont know if ABS version could have prevented that skidding as i always felt SX4 has a body roll problem cuase of its height.
