Points to be kept in mind for Indica users

As i have recently started using the Indica Turbo diesel. Being a new user for diesel vehicle pls suggest which all points to be kept in mind starting from Starting the vehicle to running on long runs and maintaince of the vehicle. As i feel using diesel vehicles is somewhat different from petrol vehicles.

I hope you do follow the 1 minute idle at starting and stopping.

Use Iftex system D.

Wait for five seconds after the orange light on the dashboard goes off before starting(dont start immediately after the light goes off)

Follow the oil change schedule faithfully.

dear greenhorn,

I was in a serach for iflex system D, it is very hard to get Coimbatore and Calicut (and in any place in between) I got only 4 sachets of 10 ml each from calicut, enough for running 1 full tank, but after that nothing.

I sent email to iftex as well as bardhal , i got a reply only from bardhal , so i will be buying bradhal diesel additive tomorrow from CBE, hope this will be a better replacement for system D

Hi to all, sorry i was busy in some other acitivity.

I have come to know that the orange light for petrol indication should not give light. And running continuosly with that light "on" can lead to serious problem with respect to engine. Pls throw some light on the same.

if its the check engine light, yes, take it to the TASC where they will fix it immediately ( they just have to reset it, the light does come on randomly sometimes) but if the light keeps coming on, then you really have some other issue which needs to be diagnosed, and you need to insist to the service center that they try to find the root cause instead of simpy resetting the light

The warning light means the fuel is low, running a low fuel can damage the fuel pump-damage to the engine directly would be less but possible.

Fill fuel as soon as the warning light comes on to be on the safer side.

Thanx for your valuable inputs. Last week i had gone for pollution check and the person there told me to go for the engine tuning as it is giving heavy smoke while pressing theaccelerator padle. But when i am driving, no smoke is cominng out. Pls suggest shall i go for the engine tuning. ( My car has covered 34k kms and driven 3k after last service) I am driving at a speed of 50-60km/hr and no smoke is coming out. Pls suggest.

 You should get the engine tuned. During normal driving, we dont revup engine as done (with no/negligible load) during the polution check. Also, switch to better petrol pump - Quality of Diesel would also play a major role. 

Never mind what others say, do whats right for that moment!

Smoke occasionally would be normal as the unburned carbon collected in side the system would be driven out, continuously 'smoking' engine(even at high loads) would be a cause of trouble.

@Praveen-did you get the PUC? how is your FE?

In normal driving/acceleration, smoke is not visible.  A little is while accelerating more for better pick-up.  If the same is in excess/heavy, get the catalytic converter cleaned/serviced.  Ideally, it should be cleaned/serviced every 5K kms.
