Hi, I'm planning to go to my native and this is my first long drive in the (new) car. The route I'm planning is Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Thoppur/Mettur/Bhavani-Erode (my friend gets off at Erode)- Walayar-Palakkad-Thrissur-Cochin. I don't like night drives, so planning to start at around 4 am in the morning from Bangalore.

Has anyone travelled through this route recently and how is the road condition?

Bijs,

I know about half of the route... Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Thoppur/Mettur/Bhavani..

From Bangalore to Thoppur, it is an absolute beauty to drive. You would sure love this highways. This route i had travelled recently (last week).

After Thoppur need to take a right to Mettur and the road in this area is also good.. travelled long back (may be year back). So not sure of the current conditions after these rains.

Have  a safe journey..

Bangalore to Palakkad you are safe. The roads are excellent (as heard from my friends who ply Blr-kerala regularly).

Do cover the palakkad-trichur route only during day time. Plenty of pot holes and traffic blocks at Kuthiran are waiting you. Last week they have started patch work, but not sure whether it is finished or not.

You can live in your car, but you can't drive your house.

Ami, Road till Palakkad is good.

Bijs, be cautious on the speed in Kanjikode area. Regular speed checks are done there.

Also have a look at this & this threads (for a few related tips).
