Hi

I have to move to chennai from bangalore for offical work. I will be in chennai for 3 months and then will return to bangalore. I wish to get my bike to chennai.

Do I have to get NOC from bangalore for such a short duration? Is there anyway i can avaoid all the trouble?

Thanks

NOC is required only if you are re registering it in the new state.

The law permits you to use the vehicle in the other state for such short periods. To avoid problems during checkings take a no pollution certificate from banglore just before you go to chennai. This way you can make the cops or RT officials believe that you are not a permanent resident of Chennai.

You can live in your car, but you can't drive your house.

I have one more doubt related to same.

Do I need to pay the Road Tax in chennai for 3 months I will be there?

Also, as said NOC is required if we are re registering the bike in new state, does this means we can use the bike for longer period also in new state without getting NOC from old state? Guess we will have to pay Road Tax in state in this case.

Thanks

Anshu

As Feroz mentioned, NOC is required when you need to re-register your vehicle in new state. Re-registering means paying road-tax and getting a new number. For short period of 3 months you need not pay taxes. And again as Feroz advised, take a PUC certificate from Banglore before going to chennai.

However, if you try staying longer than that period, and if caught by cops, be ready to shed some hefty fines. To avoid that, in case you are planning to stay longer, consult local RTO agents in Chennai and ask them for paying only road-tax for duration like 6 months or 1 year. In this case you would be required to get a NOC from Banglore for that period. On returning, you would be required to produce another NOC from Chennai saying that no dues are there in Chennai for your bike, and submit the same in Banglore. That would be a proper legal way.

Those who claim that they know everything do not know what they dont know.

S. 47 r/w S. 177 of MV Act 1988 says that

Plying a vehicle with registration mark of other State for more than 12 months

Rs. 100 for first offence

Rs. 300 for second or subsequent offence

so there is no problem
