Volvo S90 spotted testing in Europe

A heavily disguised Volvo S90 was recently spotted testing in Europe. A replacement for Volvo’s current flagship sedan - the S80, the S90 will be pitted against other premium sedans like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and the Jaguar XF.

The bolt-on camouflage on the test mule lets out very few details about the car, though you can easily make out the low flowing roofline of the car, which seems very different from the S80. The front of the Volvo S90 gets a wide grille and T-shaped ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlamps inspired by the XC90. Based on the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, the S90 will be offered with a host of four-pot engines and hybrid powertrains, borrowed from the Volvo XC90.

The S90, along with the XC90 are in the initial stages of Volvo’s plans to overhaul its line-up with SPA-based models. While the XC90 has already gone on sale in many global markets including India, the S90 is expected to go be unveiled by the end of this year as a 2016 model. The sedan will be followed by an estate version, called the V90.
