Porsche Taycan hits the ‘Ring with minimal camouflage

- The all-new Porsche Taycan will break cover later this year.

- The first pure-electric Porsche will take on the fight against the likes of Aston Martin Rapide E and Tesla Model S.

The all-new Porsche Taycan is a long time coming. The first pure-electric model from Stuttgart has been under development for almost five years now. And now, in its final stages of development, the Taycan was spotted pushing its limits at the notorious Nurburgring. The test mule is now wearing minimal cladding save for the faux taillight stickers at the back.

The Taycan has been spotted on many occasions already. But undergoing testing at a proper race track means we get a glimpse of the deployed active rear spoiler. However, the LED taillights running across the rear deck are akin to the 992-generation 911. And the front design remains true to the Mission E Concept it is based upon. 

Meanwhile, at the back, the aggressive rear diffuser comes without any exhaust tips, given the sedan's electric nature. The four-door EV was also seen careening into the corner, sitting on a large set of wheels wrapped by stickier tyres. Moreover, the aero bits, both fore and aft and on the side of the car, are hard to miss. 

The aerodynamic efficiency will be one of the top priorities for the carmaker since the Taycan is aiming for an electric range of more than 500 kilometres. The 800V system that is rumoured to propel the Taycan will also come with a fast charging feature which will be able to recharge 80 per cent of the driving range in just 15 minutes. Given Porsche’s heritage of driver-focused cars, the 0-100kmph time is said to be around 3.5 seconds and the 200kmph mark will surely come under 12 seconds.

The Taycan is likely to break cover later this year at any major auto expo, perhaps at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It will be aiming directly at the Tesla Model S and the newcomer, Aston Martin Rapide E, in the premium electric sedan segment which will later be joined by Volkswagen ID sedan, e-Tron GT and many more.
