Tesla has nailed it this time. The company has recently announced they will be releasing a battery pack (P100D) that can get the Model S do the 0-100kmph sprint in 2.5sec, and go on to serve a range of 506km in a single charge!
Deep inside, we knew the EVs of the future were eventually going to beat the internal combustion super cars, but were we really prepared to see it coming so fast, and with this sort of efficiency? Thanks to Tesla’s bold initiatives, a lot is happening right now. It is brilliant to see the company come up with tech to boost performance that rivals the Bugatti Veyron.
This 100kwh battery pack (P100D), will be available on the Tesla Model S and Model X, and will be the top end models in their range. What’s eye-catching here is that even though the Model S P100D has blistering performance, it is claimed to be the first EV (with its 506km range) to beat the 482km range mark. Tesla’s Model X P100D is not far behind with a range of 465km.
Prices for the Model S P100D start at 134,500 USD (Rs 90.22 lakh), while the Model X P100D will cost 135,500 USD (Rs 90.90 lakh). Existing Tesla Model S and Model X P90D owners can go for a battery pack upgrade for 20,000 USD (Rs 13.41 lakh). Buyers who’ve already booked a P90D and are still awaiting delivery can upgrade for just 10,000 USD (Rs 6.70 lakh). Tesla officials added that the money is going towards recycling the old battery pack.
Elon Musk, said, "This has been a very difficult development. Going from roughly 90 to 100 battery pack was like a 50 per cent increase in difficulty." For now Tesla will be limiting the production of the P100D due to the battery's complexity.
