The Ferrari F12 Speciale has been spotted completely undisguised near the company’s test facility in Maranello, Italy. This spy shot has given us the first preview of this lightened and more powerful version of Ferrari’s flagship supercar ahead of its expected debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Some serious weight-saving measures will help the F12 Speciale shed 200 kilograms over the standard F12 Berlinetta. The spy shots show that the F12 Speciale’s front fenders and side skirts get carbon fibre inserts and a completely redesigned rear bumper. As this new design is far from being called attractive, we can safely assume that aerodynamics played a major role in this overhaul. The rear fender also gets three vents to improve ventilation for the retuned 6.3-litre V12 naturally aspirated engine.
This engine is expected to put out 30 horsepower more than the standard F12 Berlinetta, which should bring its overall output up to 760bhp. This power output, along with the reduced weight should bump up the F12 Speciale’s power-to-weight ratio to 531bhp per tonne, as compared to the F12 Berlinetta’s 447bhp per tonne.
We can also expect Ferrari to tweak the suspension to further improve the F12 Speciale’s handling dynamics. With the new generation Ferrari cars like the California T and 488 GTB adopting forced induction (read turbochargers), it seems like the F12 Speciale might be the last of normally-aspirated, non-hybrid production Ferraris to go on sale.
