Aston Martin will be revealing their first all-electric vehicle, the RapidE. The pure electric sedan from Gaydon will pack in an 800volt battery pack, confirmed Andy Palmer, the company head. It will be launched late next year contrary to the earlier reports of a late-2018 launch.
The RapidE sedan will be the first Aston to ditch a conventional IC engine as a part of their electrification push. It will be manufactured in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering after the partnership of the LeEco failed. No official details regarding the RapidE are available at the moment. However, Palmer has said that the high voltage battery pack will facilitate quick charging time. The exact time hasn’t been revealed yet, but the same voltage battery pack in the Porsche Taycan claims an 80 per cent charge in around 15 minutes.
The carmaker hopes the RapidE could do laps around Nurburgring and have a top speed of 155mph (250kmph). Regenerative braking will also be developed for the RapidE by the British marque. Although its only speculations at this moment, the RapidE is anticipated to have an output of 800bhp and an electric range of 300+km.
Aston Martin plans to sell 155 units of the RapidE by the end of 2019. It is unsure whether the production run will be capped to 155 units only or the RapidE will continue to sell in 2020. When it arrives, the electric Aston will compete against the likes of Porsche Taycan and upcoming electric cars from Bentley, BMW and Mercedes-Benz apart from the rumoured Jaguar XJ electric.
